Looking forward to todays pix. Hope its finished by the time we head out at the end of may. its great being able to see how much/little progress is being made.
Hi All. Here I am. I went to the Western end of the prom, and as Jim says........No difference really. I was fed up with this lack of work during the last couple of weeks. So, I told them.....Chinese or no Chinese it was time they got some blocks laid. Well they dashed about like mad and started laying blocks at the other end of the prom. So I dashed round there and took some pics for you all.
Here they are.
Whilst I was waiting for them to unpack the blocks and get started, I took a couple of pics that I put on the end......
Thanks for the great pictures, going to get my suitcase down from the loft and start packing, less than 2 weeks until I get my Paphos spring break, hope the weather stays good, it looks lovely today. Sadly I will be one of those tourists that you laugh about in my shorts! Keep the pictures coming, you are cheering up lots of us that are still here working in the UK.
Re: Ken's question on golf course, it has been designed by Nick Faldo, so I am lead to believe.
Re; Trev's photo update, Trev, just be careful you know what the chinese are like when it comes to taking photo's of their work !!!
Any how nice to know there is at least one foreman on sight even though it's only every friday !! Keep up the good work Trev I hope you have it ready for my return at the end of April.
Hi Trev, Thanks very much for the piccy's once again, I also make a point of looking for your post every friday it really cheers me up when I see any photo's of Paphos. Val
The Seagull and the other restaurants along the sea front are still closed. Some of them are using this time to have the property's revamped. There was mention earlier on this thread that the frontages MAY be replaced, to a master plan of the councils. Time will tell what happens. But in any case there will be no access to the majority of them, until the promenade and roadway is complete and open. This is quoted as being May at the moment!!
Ken, I too heard it was designed by Nick Faldo, he flew into Paphos on BA in the middle of last week on the same flight as my golfing neighbour, who made sure he got a photo with him! Maybe to see the course for himself!
I'm glad I managed to find this good forum.
I knew work was being done in Paphos, but until I found this site I didn't quite know the full extent of it!
As I am going to Paphos in May and staying in apartments overlooking the sea, I really do hope the work will be finished in time!
By the way does anyone know what has happened to Nostos bar?
Hi DJS. Welcome to CyprusLiving, and I hope that you enjoy your stay here. Not knowing where overlooking the sea you will be, it is difficult to know how the works will affect you. They are supposed to be finished in May, but the Cypriots are not known for finishing jobs on time.
I'm sorry that I have no information about the Nestros bar.
Thanks for the warm welcome.
I have been to Paphos many times, I got married there and I keep coming back. My wife has been to Paphos 40 or so times now!!
Looking at the pictures I'll definately be affected by the works as our apartment is above the shops, but fingers crossed it will be alot better by May.
I believe Nostos bar may have become a Tea for two.
Ah that last photo Jim,
Oh to be sitting in Theo's ( the blue canopy ) watching the world go by with a cold beer and a plate of garlic shrimps.
I was down there one day when a tv crew arrived and began interviewing the rival groups of fellas selling the boat trips. It turned into a free for all and we had ring side seats !
Happy Days,
Gary
Nice pics Jim. They show that there is improvement day by day. I know what you mean about the "Pricey" cafes along there. I must admit to partaking of a Nescafe occasionally though.
As a new member and frequent visitor to Paphos I would like to thank Jim and Trev for the great photos! I really look forward to Fridays as its
photo and Cyprus Weekly day!
Hi Eleni. Welcome to CyprusLiving, and thank you for the kind comments.
When we were living in the UK we too liked to see some pics. We used to get the Cyprus Weekly delivered on a Monday. As you say, it all helps people to visualise what it is like here in Cyprus.
Look forward to seeing today's update. Must go down to the harbour a week on Friday to see if we can spot anyone taking photos. That's if Rosemary will let me, better get a move on painting our villa.
Hi All. Here I am , but a little bit windswept. Today there seems to be a fair bit of activity going on and a good few workers about. Unfortunately some of them are taking up blocks that were laid last week (1st pic). Others seem to be relaying the blocks that have been taken up, but at a higher level (2nd pic).
In picture No4 you will see that the shop forecourts seem to be having tiles laid between the blocks.
I took the photos starting at the Seagull end, and ending at the Harbour car park. This is the end where most of the block laying is going on.
There we are then........ But as you will see it was a little bit breezy today and there were some white horses out on the sea.
The trouble is some of them were galloping over the newer and lower sea wall as the last picture shows.
Best wishes to all..... Trev..

Great pics again Trev, see what you mean about sea wall, its a bit of a worry, will be fun watching the tourists with their backs to the wall when a wave breaks though, lol :

lets hope the chinese arrive soon and hurry the job along - but we can still see there is progress being made. you are doing a grand job as foreman - lets hope they don't go on strike

Trev,
Have you been issued with your own Orange or yellow Hi-Vis jacket If not I think we should start a fund to obtain one for you. Would hate for you to sustain any injuries while on your weekly photo shoot. Great pics as always.
