It appears as though all the shops are to have slabs on their frontages, each divided by 2 rows of block paving.
Are they having to pay for that themselves, I wonder?

Hi Gary. I never thought about "toasting" with a glass of wine.

Many thanks to you by the way for starting this long running thread.
It has proved to be very popular.

Mark I would think the cost would be paid by the council. But if the shops / restaurants want to extend out onto the pavements now, then i think plans, and / or payment may be needed.

Thanks again. Trev..

Extract from LINTV webpage last night:-
Granite Gripes

Red tape wrangles have stopped a team of Chinese specialists from travelling to Paphos to work on the sea front upgrade.

The workers had been contracted in owing to their expertise with granite, which is being laid in shops and on pavements along the parade.

However, Bulgarian workers are to start work on the upgrade instead.

Mayor Savvas Vergas says the works should be completed on schedule, by May.

Thanks again Trev. There certainly seems to be more action now than when we were there 3 weeks ago.

Our friend Andrea goes to Greek lessons with your good lady. I told her how we look forward to your photos every week. Lets hope it'll all be done by the time we come back on 5 June.

When we have some real gales it will perhaps provide some good pictures from very wet camera man

I have just had a thought for those of you in the UK who enjoy the pictures of Paphos........ This link has been published before, but possibly not this year.

http://citycams.i-choice.com.cy/index.php?loc_id=16

There are deep shadows now 4-15 PM. But you can put it in "Favourites" and come back and visit at any time. Obviously 2x at the bottom right gives you a bigger picture.

Cheers. Trev..

Great job as usual with the photos Trev. Gave me a lift to see sunny Paphos again after watching Ireland loose to England... Looking forward to seeing all for myself next week.

Seems to be a real hive of activity in these latest shots... did you tell them I was coming to inspect? Or do you think this is the influx of Bulgarian subs to replace the Chinese no shows? Some of them seem to be happy to pose to be photographed, unlike some workers on building sites here, when I produced my camera the guys used to disappear from view! Think they were either avoiding the taxman or maybe doing the double or both.

Off now to drown my sorrows and my shamrock! followed by 8)

Hi Derek. I told them you were coming. They said they would keep to the same speed........slow. There were more men, but the way they were going there is o chance for a May completion. They need a mass influx of block layers.
I hope to see you when you are here......look for my yellow jacket

Yeah, Hope to see you when I'm over to inspect too. Maybe I should bring a hard hat and my high viz coat?... That way you would know me when you see me, like the red rose thing in the lapel on blind dates . Better still I should round up a few Irish (and or Polish) block layers to show em how it's done in double quick time. 8)

Good Afternoon all. Well well, the first posting since Tuesday. OK you are all excused because we know the site (CL not Harbour) has had problems. I am glad that I am able to put the updated pictures on today.

I went my usual way round but you will perhaps agree that the later shots provide a really good view. By the way, I met a couple from the UK who asked "was I Trev From CL??" We had a quick chat and they told me they were members from the UK, who had yet to put their first post on. And their names were.........I am sorry but I have forgotten. It's old age!!

There was some good progress today, as you will see.

Hope you all enjoy the pictures..

Re the straight rows. Having been in the building trade for about 40 years, the block laying does not impress me. What when they get a 30 to 40 ton wagon delivering to the shops, or a boat to the harbour?????

As we said earlier. Time will tell. As it will with the tide and the low wall.

Best wishes. Trev..

PS... do I get danger money for the higher up shots??

PPS. Don't forget all the private works going on behind the screens. Will all the shops / restaurants be ready to open??

Not sure about a low wall, is it just me or does there seem to be a complete lack of ANY WALL from the kiosk along the front, bit dangerous for pedestrians and children never mind what happens when it's stormy ......... :?

thanks for the pic's Trev, as always they're excellent! 8)

Hi Helen. Yes you are right the cobbles are level with top finished edge of the wall. So, in effect from the promenade side, there is no wall. Maybe they will put some railings up as a safety feature.
However it will be interesting to see what happens to the cobbled surface when the sea is washed over it in the gales.

Best wishes. Trev..

Hi,
General layout on the newly being resurfaced road seems a bit strange to me too! I wonder why there is still no sign of pavements or a sea wall. Its also odd that the old section of sea wall fails to marry up with the new section, leaving an impression that there was some error in the measurements when the new part was being constructed. Like several others, I wonder what would happen if there is a real storm, surely it would be very unsafe to use the road, especially for pedestrians, with the waves breaking over it. Also would the new shop fronts get flooded as well?
Suppose someone falls in the sea and gets injured, will there be any duty for the municipality to make public areas safe and fit for purpose! But then this is Cyprus and health & safety hasn't really been taken on board here as yet.!!

The actual way the paving blocks are being laid also looks strange, its almost as if the workers are expecting tram lines to be installed.

I hope that the finished promenade will look the part.

Perhaps someone might like to ask the Paphos Mayor for his comments?

Good evening Dee. Re your last comment "Perhaps someone might like to ask the Paphos Mayor for his comments? "

You go right ahead and ask him. You could tell him it was an interview for CyprusLiving. Then you could post his reply exclusively on here.

I wish we had a mole in the correct government department........any volunteers out there??

I think I had heard the road along the front would be one way in future and from the pics it looks like the road is only going to be wide enough for one car width. Does anyone know if this is the case :?: Sorry if this has been answered before - I only look in from time to time.

Hi Robbo rose. I think the true answer is that we as bystanders really do not know. But it has been said that it was going to be a one way roadway, and as you say it only appears to be the width of one vehicle.
Though what happens if the vehicle wants to stop and drop things off, I don't know.

It has been said before....... but we will just have to wait and see.

Hi both again. Yes the buses stopping will be a problem, if the buses are to go that way again. Even if they put a bus bay there, other people park in them so as you say they will have to stop for a few minutes to allow passengers to board.
But as you know us car drivers will just wait patiently

Hi Jagwheels, (Norv I think?) Yes I am glad I am not involved AT ALL

I always thought that when you lay cobbles you consolidate the base with a vibrating plate machine.. and also this is what (in the UK) you use to work the filling / grout down between the cobbles. However I have seen no sign of one used on this site.
But, Hey!! These guys will have laid a lot more cobbles than I have.

Best wishes. Trev..
