First post to this site - we are due in Paphos on May 7th - last visit 17 years ago.
Really appreciate Trev's and others photo's - sea front looks a big improvement (finished or not).

Great shots again Trev, so you don't reckon they are gonna finish in time for my next (was it to be final?) inspection first week in May! 8)

Surely the tiled/ paved areas along shop fronts would need to be open again soon, the owners must be going spare over lost revenue. :(

Many of the shops facing Poseidonos Avenue have been gutted to bare shells. It will take more than a couple of weeks to put that right, and up until last weekend not all the traders had agreed to the design of the new verandas (which presumably they will have to pay for). The verandas will not be erected until there is unanimity.

The block work is scheduled for completion on the 19th May. Barring cock-ups (such as the current debacle about the street lighting and the reluctance of the government to pay the contractors) then there seems no reason why that date should not hold. It is likely (though by no means certain) that pedestrian access will be permitted following the completion of the paving. It is anyone's guess when the whole job will be finished.

Let's hope that the local authority pays someone to keep the new facilities tidy, as there is already a load of litter in the new fountain - including beer bottles and empty MacDonalds cartons. I don't suppose there is any chance that chewing gum and cigarette stubs will be controlled? :(

Out local town spent £2m on granite slabs and paving. Within weeks, the areas outside the shops such as Greggs, Subway etc. were a total mess, mainly with school kids and their lunches....

The vendors should be made to pay for the cleaning - it's pretty easy to prove....

I know some McDonald's who employ outside cleaners.... to keep the area clean.

As to gum - they should do what Singapore does and ban it

Yippee its friday again and already feeling the pangs of withdrawl from not having seen any new pix of the harbour for few days.

Being a 365 day a year shiftworker ( where all days / weeks merge into one) this thread has brought that friday feeling back again and not a crunchie in sight.

5 weeks tomorrow and will be back in paradise - not yet counting the days but that will come - can't wait.

I've been saving my last 7 bottles of Keo up - didn't want to drink them too soon - might just open a couple tonight

Hi all. Here I am again after my Friday rambles around the edges of the building site. This lunch time i met a very nice couple from Scotland who are here on a weeks holiday. We chatted a little, and I asked them their names, which they told me........... And which of course I now cannot remember.
Still it is nice to be noticed and I suppose be recognised.

I went the usual route and as you would expect they keep getting nearer and nearer the "Seagull" end and therefore finishing.

Here are today's pics.........

So. There we go my friends. You can see the shops near Rose corner, and they all appear to require some work doing on them.

It is still VERY much. Time will tell / we shall see, time.

Best wishes. Trev..

Great pics again Trev.

Like most on here we now look forward to Fridays for the weekly update. Over for a week on the 28th of this month so may come down on the Friday to do a bit of 'Trev Spotting'.

What time do you normally do your weekly recce? If you have time may even buy you a Keo for all your hard work.

Obviously no chance of being finished by then which is a shame as we always like to have a stroll along the front ( apart from the timeshare idiots).

Keep up the good work.

The builders, or at least some of them probably do recognise me now. Some of them even wave for the photograph.

Re what time do I do my "Shoot"..... well that may well change for the next couple of weeks. I go on Friday lunch time because my wife has Greek lessons in Paphos. However they are cancelled for the next two weeks due to the Easter Holidays.

Re wasting / hosing down with water....... Yes they are using hoses I presume to wet the "grout" mix to get it to set. However here is another pic from the area behind the promenade buildings.......

Image

This probably happens daily. It was certainly happening last Friday.

This is Cyprus...... Regards. Trev..

Well done Trev. As you obviously like using a camera please feel free to put up photos of anything else you fancy/see on your travels about the Paphos region. It really does remind all of us not as fortunate as some of the place we love.
Does anyone know if there is any work going on at the old Sodap factory site ? If so a photo of that from anyone would be interesting.
Thanks Again Trev

Hi Tracy (?). Welcome to CyprusLiving. The 17th of may is one of the dates that have been mentioned as an opening date. As we keep saying..... Time will tell. But if you are here for 3 weeks then you stand a better chance of a walk on the cobbles. You will still be able to visit the Harbour area and take your kids on a speed boat ride.

I hope you have a good time here.

Best wishes. Trev..

Hi Trev
We were the couple you met last Friday! It was really nice to meet you.
We had a fantastic holiday, the only problem being it was too short! I am back at work today in the fog and drizzle!
We hope to come back to Cyprus agian some time, as we had such a great time.

Hi Janet and Stuart.
Of course as soon as I saw your signature I remembered your names. I am glad that you both had a good time here, and the weather now is even warmer. Still no rain though to put some water in the reservoirs.
As far as I can see I will be there taking photographs tomorrow, so that yourselves and others can have their weekly fix.

Take care. Best wishes. Trev..

OPEN FOR BUSINESS...PEDESTRIANS ONLY.

Hi All. Well there was no sign up, but today the promenade was open for pedestrians to walk along. There are a few areas still restricted, particularly around the Seagull end. No comments from me  but plenty of pictures.

It is still not clear whether any parking will be allowed. And ladies.... High heels are a bit risky and stilletoes are a NO NO.

Enjoy the views all, and if you live here.......Pop down and have a walk around.

No barriers of any kind are present. You can step off onto the rocks and pebbles.

It seems to have really come on since my last visit 3 weeks ago. Hopefully when I am back at the end of May will be able to walk along the front. Thank you Trev, you are doing a sterling job. :P

Brilliant pics as usual Trev :D I always thought that was what was wrong with the old wall, you were facing the wrong way, these steps are great! Of course as Cyprus has only just joined the EU they are unfamiliar with the nanny state and being sued rotten if someone's small child or dog takes a tumble, I bet they will have to resort to railings in the end, shame for the rest of us though.

Cheers

Hi Milly. I understand exactly what you mean. However if you walk a few hundred yards to the Harbour, there are no railings there to stop youngsters going... Plop!! People will just have to keep a hold on there little treasure. (child)

Looks like some of the shops were open....was there just the odd 1 open?

Giving the contractors a little bit of credit... it seems to be a lot further on than I would have thougt if we go back 4 or 5 weeks

Hi Glen. One shop at least, up at the Seagull end has stayed open throughout all the work. Also McDonald's have remained open.

But I know what you mean, because some of them appeared to be ready for customers. I can only say it looked as though a few were open. I mainly stayed on the seaward side, because for weeks I have only been able to take pics from the shops to the sea.

Maybe some others may be down there this Easter weekend, and be able to enlighten us.

Cheers. Trev..
