For doing concrete?? NO, just for general building work, fencing aso. Please read first.
By the way, the usual wages for people who do unskilled work in the villages is 20-30€ per day, so......
We do most of the work ourselves and just need helpers who have a little bit of experience.

20-30 per day? Way below hourly minimum wage then. Surely cash in hand illegal/unregistered workers for that? I wish you luck also.

No wonder there is so much poverty and hardship when a days labour is only valued at 20-30 Euros.

There is definitely another Cyprus outside of the expat bubble!
All the agricultural workers in the villages get 400 € for around 50 hours and more /week. For many people from Non-EU countries that's normal and
means: around 14 €/ day! The whole building- , agricultural- hotel- sector are like that. That's the real Cyprus.

Ok, according to tax law a month consists of averagly 20-21 working days. Fact is that for example in the agricultural sector workers work at least 6 days a week,
often more (due to the necessary work in various seasons) and mostly MORE than 8 hours a day.
So you come to an average wage of 14 to max. 16€ per day. That's what I see in the villages. We asked people who do casual jobs and all of them told us, that they usually get 20-25€/ day.
According to this fact we had no problem to find people who were more than happy with what we offered, especially because we care for the food and transport.
We don't verify those wages but it's a fact.
With our own income there is no way to hire a 'building company for the work, so we have to do it ourselves and thankfully we and the people whom we found now are happy.
Problem solved.

That suggests you and the "employees" are working according to the tax law, i.e. paying tax, social security.

My own view is that paying someone €14 per day to do physical labour is not something I'd brag about or be proud about.

Who does???

That's just what people -mostly non EU- workers tell you if you ask them.

As a Legal worker you won't be paying income tax if your earning €14 a day. But you will have to make social security payments.
Social security payments for a construction worker is over €900 a quarter which means your paying them €4 a day!!
It's because of the likes of you Gisela that tradesmen can't earn an honest living here in Cyprus.
I hope nobody sings to the authorities about what your doing!!

Sorry, but what we are doing is just to look for 2 helpers (no construction workers) for around 4-6 days between next week and Christmas- that's it!! We pay 30-40€ a day.
Please don't start a political or legal discussion about that!
Problem is solved, we found 2 people and if you want to ''sing to the authorities'' about that, be my guest.
Learned now that it's not a good idea to ask in this forum. The 2 people who will come for helping are more than pleased to have the opportunity to get some money, cause they have nothing and our charity project is more than happy too because 1 more man offered his help for free.. We need as many hands as possible at certain weekends.

We are rebuilding a dog shelter that has to move from their original place very soon. 30 dogs are waiting for a new home and 15-20 more are in the row in pounds.

We ourselves have only a small income but we could provde a nice big piece of land, unfortunately it needs a lot of work.
The shelter has far too few volunteers for that kind of work and -of course- little money.

Everybody, who loves to roll up his sleeves and get to work on one or another saturday or sunday is more than welcome. :ymhug:
We need the water, build a well, a sesspit, erect around 2000sqm of fence, rebuild and build new kennels.............................and all that as soon as possible.

whitts you are partly right (theoretically) but tell all this the farmers in the villages who are the employers of the people who told us their story.
''It's because of the likes of you Gisela that tradesmen can't earn an honest living here in Cyprus.
I hope nobody sings to the authorities about what your doing!!
'' - Brings tears into my eyes if I read comments like that! We helped so many people here over the years..because we face the reality of life in a Cypriot village every day. .We are NOT the ones who need comments like that. Maybe you are a 'tradesman' and want to help for this wage? You are welcome. We can not afford more and the dogs need a place!

Thank you to everybody who can help in any way!!

Well said Gisela.
Working for a charity is a whole different ball game to the 'normal' work for normal wages that some here are going on about. If people are in addition happy to accept less than the 'normal' rate then all well and good. My wife and I have worked for a charity for 11 years for nothing, other than the satisfaction of having helped people less fortunate than us. Why people should gripe about the situation described is beyond me - and as for talking about 'the authorities' being informed, well!!!!!

gisela, I think that if you had mentioned earlier in the thread that this was for a charity then there would have been zero animosity directed to your original post.

If you were not so far away from me I would gladly offer my services for free.
Good luck with getting everything completed on time.

Maybe you are right, but I was not aware that offering a helpers job for some days could cause such an animosity particularly because I posted ''casual work for some days'.
thank yu for your good wishes.
