Primetel

Postby Orlando » 24 Apr 2013 18:10

I am thinking of moving Internet services to Primetel. I live in Peyia and therefore am interested in opinions of those who use them in that area particularly:
1. Whether the speeds achieved are as published
2. What the mobile coverage is like
3. What the services are like if you encounter a problem
4. Are there any regular outages of service and do they PRE warn you

Thank you

I wonder whether this is too late to answer. Also, we aren't in Peyia. However, to give an idea...

We have had Primetel for a year now, 8Mbit, down in Kato Paphos, running 2 TVs through the internet and ordinary internet access with wi-fi modem/router.

-Speeds achieved as published.
-Don't know about the mobile. You mean the package phone? We hardly use it as only occasionally in Paphos and it only allows you some kinds of Cyprus calls free. We have to use up our other sim top-ups first. However, it's still not a bad deal.
-They are normally very quick about responses. However, they had a big lightning blow-out over Christmas/New Year 2012. It fried our modem and wall-plugs through the land line (as well as goodness know how many other people's.) Not their fault but it took over a week to put it right at that time. I have a suspicion you would get problems over holidays with any company, especially for such a big issue. They refunded us for the time without access and sent a sim with top-up money in compensation. Otherwise they have answered within a few minutes. We are generally quite happy with the service from that point of view.
-There are not too many outages. They don't seem to get affected by storms (normally!) but do, I believe, use the CYTA backbone for some elements so are susceptible to some CYTA problems.
-If they are updating or such, then they warn you.

We are generally happy and, if you get a good deal, I would not worry about the service.
We did have a wi-fi system on the roof. It is much better than that and far less susceptible to the weather.
