BBC drops F1 Broadcasting immediately

Postby emgee » 17 Dec 2015 19:01

I'm sure that I just read that the BBC has dropped coverage of F1 Racing immediately and ITV are taking over at the start of next season.

It cost the BBC 20,000,000 Pounds per season for a 4-5,000,000 audience. Just not considered cost-efficient by the Beeb.

F1 audiences are falling rapidly as its soooooooooo boring, may not be F1 next year as many of the teams do not have engines for the car bodies, whichh is what it boils down to.

Sky of course will still be showing F1 as an avid supporter, no doubt the BBC could not now afford to pay for F1, I feel sorry for the background staff and commentators on the BBC.

Alan your wrong about world wide TV F1 watchers, in fact they have risen sharply over last season, please try and at least get your facts right.

Boring as Darts, come on mate.

I am an avid watcher of darts as I find it exciting, immensely skillful and hugely entertaining which in my view is what sport is all about. I have not had the same experience with F1 which is why I don't watch it any more. Whilst the skill of the drivers is there for all to see for me at least there is little excitement and even less entertainment except perhaps at the start and the finish of the race. However hard I try I will never be an F1 driver but I can and do play darts but obviously not at the level shown on TV.

I guess it's a matter of whatever rocks your boat and for me I would have to say bring on the arrows every time.

Exactly and what I keep replying to..Alan is misinformed..to compare darts though with a world wide audience of F1 is just a joke.

The BBC did not drop F1 they were comprehensibly outbid by ITV, and will only have part coverage as did the BBC over the last few seasons, thank goodness we have Sky sports.

Incidentally Sky Sports are covering Darts world finals at the moment Alan!

Darts in my humble opining is not a sport never has been, just a pub game that I played for many years as I did snooker. Like Alan I was not much use at it either ;)

The BBC DID drop coverage of F1 3 years before their contract expired. They were not outbid by ITV, they were not getting favourable returns for their 20,000,000Pound per season contract, as audiences were falling through boredom. When was the last time you saw an overtaking manouvere? The races are decided in the pits......some race!

Alan the BBC dropped the show because of cost's as I said absolutely nothing to do with the fans , F1 like it or not is booming, it has billions of fans world wide, time you excepted this and just play darts. :) again do get your facts right, darts will go the way of BBC coverage of wrestling, big Daddy and all..F1 will go forward long after we have gone.

http://www.theweek.co.uk/f1-2015/67957/ ... -cut-costs

a short excerpt from the above Alan.

The BBC is poised to give up its coverage of Formula 1 in a bid to cut costs, handing its part of a joint deal with Sky Sports to ITV until the end of 2018.

Walking away from F1 with three years of the contract still left could save the BBC millions, even though it will have to pay compensation to F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone for breaking their contract.

Seems to me that there are two distinct camps here - those who like Formula 1 and those who like Darts - and in this big wide world of ours there is room for both of us to enjoy our respective sports without slagging the other camp off. Both have their merits, both have their fans and both are popular with TV audiences - end of story.

As an aside I wasn't aware that BBC had ever covered wrestling in any shape or form. I seem to recall the dulcet tones of Kent Walton on ITV every Saturday afternoon. Could be wrong though

Jim

Can I suggest that you read the Daily Mail online version, sports, F1 to get an excellent synopsis of the current state of F1 from Mr Ecclestone et al. The head of Mercedes Sport says that it is boring and recognises that audiences are falling because of the domination of his team in the sport.

The Professional darts Corporation has just declared that it will be offering 10,000,000GBP in prize money this season.

In the spirit of another New Year please drop this Alan..don't want to fall out do we? :D
