Sand Filter Diffuser Pipe replacement

Postby RedWoody » 08 Jul 2014 09:32

I'm informed that the top diffuser pipe needs to be replaced on my Tritan TR-60 sand filter, as it leaking close to the shell of the filter.
Quoted price for this part was 95 euros + 45 euros to fit!
Has anyone had this job done?
Is it possible as a DIY task?
Is this piece of plastic pipe really so expensive?

Hi Redwoody
This is a problem with the older Triton Filter, The bulk head fittings are prone to fracturing.
Our Company has replaced many, and yes the parts even trade are expensive you could say a rip off, but you have to buy their parts. I have replaced filters because of the price, and if your filter is over a certain age you should think about it. But make sure you replace both parts as your estimate seems fair. your filter sand will have to be removed to get at bulkhead fittings, so if your sand is over 5 years old best also to replace it. Hope this helps.
Steve.

Can you advise by PM a quality replacement filter unit & the cost of removal of the old & installation of the new one?
As you suggest, it may be more cost effective in the long term.
