Rust

I wonder whether any of the experts on this forum can suggest a way to clean rust from the "stainless steel/chrome" ladders of our swimming pool. The handles and steps are all bright shiny metal, except where they touch the waterline. There is a rusty area on both sides about an inch deep. The water in the pool is well-maintained and has given us no problems in the last eight months. We don't even use the ladder as we have Roman steps at the shallow end. So really a cosmetic exercise.

Someone suggested aluminium foil and lemon juice but this was ineffective. Other Internet searches have suggested "naval jelly" or coca-cola but, to be on the safe side, I thought it would be best to ask real people :)

Hi Mac
Regarding rust on your pool steps, the Stainless Steel should be 316 if it is you can use Scotch Bright pads medium ones. You should not get rust on 316 stainless Steel.

Thanks Steve. No idea about 316 but will look into it. Presumably the pads would be available at a hardware store.
