Hi,
Went to Cyprus Immigration this morning to renew our Yellow Slip, blimey they need information from you more than you need to renew your passport. Get it together Cyprus, you already have all the information from the first time we got our Yellow Slip. Talk about jobs for the boys!

Why bother ?
The only time I was asked for it, I said it had expired.5 years ago.
They said no problem.
What do you need it for now EU rules apply.

What EU rules? Each country has a right to have its own system of registering those that move there. The MEU forms in the process for Cyprus. There is an automatic right for any EU citizen to move here but the Cyprus immigration system requires for all citizens simply to register. I really don't see what the issue is with this.

If you are working, have your own business or have children its very important that you go and register with immigration so you get your yellow paper. Without it the children cant register in school and you cant use the general hospital as you need to show the yellow paper to get a card, same for ID (do they still issue ID for foreigners now?). The new yellow paper is for life so you never have to go through it again, thankfully.
If you dont work etc and already have the hospital card you may not need to bother?

Alien cards don't exist any more do they? The yellow slip replaced them and is needed to get all of those things listed above.
All the alien cards/pink slips expired some time ago and had to be replaced by the yellow slips which have no expiration date..........or am I losing my marbles? Shocked

I have no yellow slip but an alien card. I stilll use it if the need occures which is very, very, rarely. Got my medical book with my alien book which I have had over 20 years and it is in my former name. No problem! I am still the same person with the same parents now deceased, and the same date of birth. ID card expired 15 years ago I never renewed it but quote the number if required. It's all a load of tosh really to keep people busy for their high pensions.

got my aliens booklet when I registered in 2007 ~ I'm aware that the registering system/procedure has changed now from the various forum posts on the subject but as the immigration office have not informed me of the change I have no intention of chasing them for a pink~~ yellow or whatever colour it will be next slip ~~~~ even more so when I'm told that I will have to pay again .

No you are not losing your marbles. This is the procedure now. Only a yellow registration slip will you get now. Most of the Cyprus Government websites are out of date with their 'resident's permit' info. All you get now is your document (which unfortunately happens to be yellow as per the old 'yellow resident's permit'. It would have been much easier to make it purple!).

Better still a plastic card, like the ID Card. My yellow slip is in my wallet and is getting a bit tatty, and should anyone want to make a copy a colour copier is easy but do it before you fold it up.

Made a colour copy of our 'yellow slips' which we keep in our wallet/purse and put the originals in a safe place. On the odd occaision we needed to show ID the copies were sufficient.

For the first time since I moved here I've been asked for my yellow/pink slip .
Tried to buy a dongle and contract with MTN a couple of days ago and they refused saying I must provide my immigration paper plus proof of address before they can complete the paperwork .
Looks very much like I'm going to have to go to the immigration and get this bloody pink/yellow slip just to make everybody happy. and to get me back on the internet

I have been asked for the yellow immigration paper many times. Last time was the other day when we bought a scooter for our son and went to transfer the logbook. The Citizen Advice Office in Paphos is great by the way, you can even do the transfer of vehicles there. Very Happy

Unfortunately you have to show your yellow slip at the first lesson of every government/EU sponsored Greek language course. Otherwise it is impossible to take part. That's the only reason we have one!

You must surely have used your 'Alien card'(receipt) to get your medical card. Unless you are workig that is.

This is what I was told - whether its right or not - but it was immigration and the social security departments so they surely must be right.
1. in order to work here you should pay tax/ social security payments.
2. in order to apply to pay social security they want to see your yellow paper
3. you cannot register for the hospital without your yellow paper but you can go private no problem
4 they want to see your yellow paper if you want to register the birth of a child here
5. my insurance broker prefers the yellow slip to my uk passport
6. when i asked if i could get a pink card as ID i was told that now we are EU we dont need one
just for the record-i am self employed, have a child born on paphos, am 50 yrs young, and have lived here 3-4 years, so I am sure things will be different for other people
regards to all
Andy

People that have lived here for a long time and have a medical card etc dont usually bother to go to immigration to change to the yellow paper( note its not a yellow or a pink slip, they are not valid anymore). Alien cards are not issued anymore but you can still use them as ID but all the government offices prefer the yellow paper now. The ID cards are not issued to foreigners anymore as non-Cypriot citizens tried to use Cypriot IDs to travel abroad and that is not allowed.
If you are working, self employed etc you can not register at the immigration unless you pay SI. Its different if you are retired.
If you buy a car, want to register at the hospital, send your child to school etc you must have the yellow paper.
We have lived here for 10 years, before the EU, but still had to go and get this paper 2 years ago as we were stuck without it! Sad

This is the only one not correct. You have the legal right to work and to join the social insurance scheme as soon as you arrive in Cyprus - using only your passport. If you are self-employed, you need to produce three month's worth of invoices, business cards/letterhead etc. and proof of your business operation before you will be accepted. You then need that proof of registration with social insurance to actually APPLY for your EU registration document (yellow form) as an employed person which is a much easier process with much less documentation required than if you are not working. You do not have to do it the other way around.

You are right, Jeanne.
Can only tell you what happened when we transferred the scooter on tuesday at the Citizen Advice Office, they wanted the yellow paper, not passport or alien card.....When I bought a new car 5 years ago the Transport Department wanted my pink slip.... Maybe its because I am not retired. Its different for me at the hospital too, dont need a copy of the hospital card for xray etc that retired people need.

We've been here for two years and have no pink slip or yellow slip or ID card or alien card. We own a house and a car, have bank accounts and credit cards, electricity accounts, CYTA accounts and other stuff I've probably forgotten. If we get asked for ID we give our passports - never been a problem to date. The only time we have been asked for one was for a phone with a contract - so we use pay as you go, much easier to keep control of the kids phone useage as there are no shocking bills each month!

Non EU Citizens Yellow Slips are still only valid for five years. I have to have a Yellow Slip so my wife can register and I have to provide all the required documentation when she renews hers so Immigration can confirm I can support her so in essence mine is only valid for five years as well.

EU Member State citizens and members of their family who are also citizens of EU Member States shall be obliged to register with the Census Records and Migration Department within four months of arrival.
So if anyone is living in Cyprus longer than 4 months without registering , they are here illegally

some of us were good little boys and registered as soon as they arrived But never got the yellow/pink ( insert any colour you wish) slip .
so does that make me illegal or semi legal .

EU citizens have the right to enter, reside and remain in the terrritory of any other member state for a period of up to 3 months simply by presenting a valid passport or National Identity Card. If they intend to remain for a period exceeding 3 months, a residence permit must be obtained.
As someone else has said, Cyprus, like any other Country, has the right to maintain records of who is residing there, EU citizen or not, working or retired.
We arrived on 6th May and the following week went to Immigration. We were given an appointment for 8.30am on 4th July, along with a list of required documents. I was dreading the appointment as I had heard so many stories of being turned away because they wanted stuff that wasn't even on the list etc. and to expect to have to have several trips.
Speaking for myself, I have to say it couldn't have been simpler. We were called in after about 10 minutes of arriving and around 20 minutes after that, we were walking out with our yellow slips. I made sure I took everything on the list, together with photocopies of everything on the list and presented it all to them in order of the list. You cannot obtain a medical card without a yellow slip and also, we were told to keep them safe as they cannot provide copies. You would have to go through the process of re-applying.
So far, I have had the same experience when dealing with customs to apply for relief from paying duty on the two vehicles we brought over. Of course that could all change when I do get permission (which I am expecting very soon) as I will then have to deal with the Department of Transport to register them, but we will see and it will have been well worth it.

Yes Bill, but as you said, you did register some years ago and so were presumably given whatever colour slip was needed at the time to obtain your medical cards.
We only arrived in May and most definitely could not apply for medical cards without a yellow slip. Shortly after our visit to Immigration on the 4th July, we applied for the medical cards and they arrived by post a few days ago.

I applied for my medical card this year (a few months ago) ~ I do not have a pink/yellow or what ever colour slip it will be next.
When I registered in 2007 I was told my pink slip would be sent in the post ~ like many others who applied around this time it never happened ( rumour has it that they threw away all the applications )

Replacement cards issued by the 'Citizens Advice' office are white and quite acceptable by the medical authorities.

That's actually my complaint Trev .
Although nobody ( like the immigration ) has said anything to me personally I understand that I have to go back to the immigration and reapply and of course pay again ~ and that isn't going to happen .
I'm usually pretty good at conforming to the rules BUT I'm afraid I don't suffer fools to gladly, more so if they are civil servant type fools . I seem to function pretty well without the various coloured slips of paper.
I'm seriously thinking of taking up Cypriot citizenship which will do away for any need of any immigration input on my life here ~~ they can then shove their pink/yellow slips where the sun don't shine.
Bill

Yes Bill, but as you said, you did register some years ago and so were presumably given whatever colour slip was needed at the time to obtain your medical cards.
We only arrived in May and most definitely could not apply for medical cards without a yellow slip. Shortly after our visit to Immigration on the 4th July, we applied for the medical cards and they arrived by post a few days ago.
Just out of interest Denise what colour hospital/medical card did they send you.
Bill

Hi Bill,
It's white. So like KG said, yours will be perfectly acceptable.

I had to replace mine and it came from Nicosia with a whole A4 page which said " The 'pink form is now white". What a waste of paper!!!

Hi
Could someone PM me with what you exactly need for the immigration process. Many thanks in advance.

Hi J&J.
No doubt someone will post a list for you. But the best way of all is to go to the Immigration office. You have to go to make an appointment anyway and they will tell you what you need to take and give you the forms to fill in.
Trev..

No need to be a pm , its no secret. Laughing
As UK pensioners the documentation we needed for our appointment was:
1. Valid passports + copy, for each person
2. Tenancy contract or contract of sale + copy
3. Pension certificate (proof of state pension, private pension) + copy
4. Health insurance or form E121 + copy
5. Up to date Bank statement from a local bank, signed & stamped & showing movements of the account
6. Marriage certificate (in English or Greek) + copy
7. One passport size photograph for each person
8. Completed Form MEU1A (everyone is entered on the one form)
During your appointment you will also need to pay an application fee of €8.54 for the head of the family! Plus €17.09 for each additional family member.
If you are an EU citizen an MEU1A form (in Greek & English) has to be taken to your appointment
see form at
http://moi.gov.cy/images/stories/PDF_FI ... RMMEU1.pdf
As Trev said you need to go to immigration to make an appointment in the first instance (with your passport).

J&J,
I would do exactly as Trev said and make your appointment with Immigration. They will give you a list of what they require (it varies according to status - employed/self-employed/retiired/children etc.), so you can match it to your own circumstances.
If you do just that and take the necessary photocopies (also treat them with respect and throw in the odd smile:-)) there really shouldn't be a problem - despite all the horror stories Wink Trust Me.

I totally agree Denise, that's what we did in the end. We had no problems and now have all the correct documents.

( rumour has it that they threw away all the applications )
Bill
I bet they never threw away the cash that went with all those applications, ours included.
Trev..
'Im seriously thinking of taking up Cypriot citizenship which will do away for any need of any immigration input on my life here ~~ they can then shove their pink/yellow slips where the sun don't shine.
Bill
oops so close but no cigar---seems they need me to be in possession of a yellow slip plus lots of other things that I can't obtain Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes .
So that's another good idea down the pan .
