Went for Cod and chips last night. Fish was perfectly cooked with a light crispy batter and fantastic flavour (10/10). Chips on the other hand were undercooked (though not hard) very greasy and limp (1/10). If they can improve on the chips, then they are on to a winner as far as the fish n chips are concerned.

According to their web site they double cook the chips so they are crisp on the outside & soft in the middle. Hopefully they will sort it out soon

It's where Veranda was - left hand end of the strip containing Chloe's etc.

Just had a take away, fish was good but the chips (a lot of them) were limp when we got them home, the trick is to put on your deep fryer, set to it's highest setting, two minutes and the chips were as good as mums..

We found it too expensive two fish and chips €21.40 a little too high in my opinion, nice staff, any other add on were extra be warned. give it a try remembering it's expensive we felt.

Nearly forgot this the F&Chips were dripping in oil, not good, they must try harder.

They have a Daily Deal on at the moment so may be an opportunity to give it a try at a reduced price: http://www.dailydealscy.com/

We did the "Daily Deals" thing last week.

Food generally OK, albeit attention to the amount of cooking oil left on the plate at the end of the meal needs sorting-out if matters are to improve (IMO). Beer a little expensive for this type of establishment. Lovely waitress.

However, in so saying, we'll likely give it another go on a Monday for the 2 for €15 deal.

Hmm, simply draining the fish for a few seconds on kitchen paper would eliminate the amount of oil however the batter was crispy and the chips were lovely - soft on the inside and crisp on the outside.

I have read differing reports so I'm thinking they may still be finding their feet hence the inconsistency, the waitress was doing OK until we asked for more drinks - still waiting!

There doesn't appear to be any toilet facilities for disabled people, and for able bodied people they're up a steep flight of stairs and through a maze of passage ways, unfortunately I found the a few of lights weren't working!

Parking nearby can be tricky unless you can get in round the back. We took the opportunity with the voucher to try it but I don't know if we'd go again!

Went on Tuesday with a daily deal.
Way too greasy and I didn't like the batter at all ..... The fish inside was lovely though. Chips not great either. Good mushy peas.
It was reasonably busy and only one waitress on. She was lovely, very pleasant but the poor girl couldn't cope with taking orders, serving drinks and delivering the food! There were 4 of us, we girls were served first, we'd eaten half of ours before the guys food arrived. Not good ....... and NOT the waitresses fault.
Glad we tried it on a Daily Deal ........ Think I'll leave it a while before I return ...... they need to do better. I shall be watching the comments.

Hmm, I think it's still going to be the Kentrikon taverna in Mandria then for excellent value & tasting F&C!

Do you not like the Fish & Chippy in Mandria then Mike? We ate there a week ago and it was as good as ever.

We tried the Kentrikon but are now back using the usual Mandria one.
But one much nearer Riley's and very good... Tea For Two on TOTK. And easy parking at the side even with all the roadworks.

Mandia F&C had gone downhill. There was a long debate on here about it a while back. That's when we tried Kentrikon & preferred it. Price lower too as it came with bread & butter, mushy peas and a half of beer. €8.95 if memory serves me well.

Save that long drive to Mandria (for many of us) give Piperos a try, opposite the fire station next but one to KFC, very good large portions just eat in is my advice not take away. And yes we have tried F&C in Mandria it is all a matter of taste I guess.

Come back Ramsdens!! :(

Fish and Chips is available in Silks which has always been the same owners as Ramsdens so people can go there for a fix if required!

Yes already tried them...not the same though, but give them a try for yourselves, better than that long drive to Mandria.

Wow! Am amazed that you can manage all that Mike  I struggle just to get through the small cod and chips at the Mandria fish and chippy - let alone any sides!

Five of us went there last night. The quality of all our meals was very poor. The fish batter was too greasy, chips hard not crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, mushy peas had little flavour and only one slice of bread and butter for a side. We've had a lot better and they have to up their act a lot more to get any more business from us. If that is how traditional Yorkshire fish and chips are served we don't like it.

Been past there a couple of times, including this morning, and it appears closed and shut up. Was it just the wrong time of day or is another one to fall be the wayside?

I was told today (by someone they sought advice from!) that they have read the criticisms and are changing the way they do things plus the way they fry their chips - different dripping perhaps?!

Therefore it may be a case of giving them a second chance if fish and chips is your thing.

We do like (good) fish and chips and would give them a go when and if they reopen (they are open!). Not if they cook anything in dripping though - may suit others but not us.

Or you can use the dog and bone...easiest way. Rileys 26030103 OPENING HOURS: 7 DAYS PER WEEK 5pm - 10pm

Or just click on this link.

Riley's Website. http://www.rileysrestaurants.com/

a p.s I doubt they use solid lard for cooking french fries, all now use cooking oil surly?, mine were a little oily I suspect not hot enough oil and also not letting them drain well..also they must be double cooked I feel.

I detected the smell and taste of beef dripping when I tried them Jim ........ I may be wrong.
Whatever they were fried in it wasn't pleasent and far too greasy.

Jane I am positive chip shop fryers now all use oil, if you have a deep fryer at at home you will know they must use oil not solid cooking lard.

I'm sure the owner would tell you, maybe the oil was old?

When I hear things have improved I will again give them a try..

We usually now make our own, beer batter good fish and I do know how to cook good crispy chips, double fry them is the way I think, I do have a deep fryer, would not be without one, and not just for F&C's.

Maybe take a read of this.

http://brevilleusasupport.com/deep-frye ... ying-tips/

Just a few bullet points..from the artcle above link.

.Do not use solid frying oil, only use liquid oils.
.Use good quality liquid oil. We do not recommend fats that deteriorate quickly such as lard. Deep frying in butter or margarine is also not .recommended because of their low smoke point temperatures.Possible fire risk.
.Olive oil is not recommended for deep frying due to its low smoke point temperature.
.Always check that the cooking oil you use is marked suitable for deep frying. Only use cooking oil with a high smoke point. Oils with low smoke .points can rapidly degrade at temperatures around 375°F and produce unhealthy by-products.
.Cooking oil, even unused, has a limited shelf life. It oxidizes quite quickly with
