GP Appointment Non Cyprus Resident

Postby Pepe le Pew » 13 Feb 2016 15:55

Hello!

I'm new to the forum. This is my first post here.

I have acquired a home near Limassol (lucky me) which I plan to use as a second home. I'll be dividing my time between the UK and Cyprus.

My query for you lovely people is this; if I need a prescription for my usual medication while I'm in Cyprus (for example if I stay longer than planned and run out) can a Cyprus doctor prescribe? What would I need to do to be registered with a Cyprus GP? Also what proof of my meds would I need?

I am retired, although under 60 and do not plan to live full-time in Cyprus. I realise I will have to pay.

Any advice is most welcome.

Hi Pepe. You can go to any private doctor here and they will write you a prescription. If you phone a GP in your area there is usually no problem getting an appointment. €35 to see a doctor is around the usual charge here.

Also many Private hospitals have local GP's where you just turn up and wait outside their door. There may just be a few people in front of you. Again they wills see you, and write out a prescription. Again the average charge is around €35

Whether they will prescribe Exactly what you want is anyone's guess, but I don;t see why not.

You do not HAVE to register with a particular Doctor here.

Also, you can just visit a the chemist where you would take your prescription and see if they will supply your chosen drugs prescription free.

That is what I would do first of all. A lot of drugs here do not require prescriptions such as drugs for high blood pressure and probably many others.

Thank you both for your very helpful replies.

I will enquire at the pharmacy as my first port of call when I'm over next month.

By the way Pepe. Once you have a prescription from a doctor and have taken it to the Chemist, next time if you take the box of tablets they will often sell you the same again, as they know you are on that medication
