Back after a while away - what's new in Paphos Restaurants

Postby tankard » 07 Sep 2011 21:35

Hello folks, we've not been able to get to Paphos for a while, but we are back at the end of the month [Sep].
I know most of you rarely venture into Paphos itself but that's where we are having to stay [very near Bar Street]. We've been many times before over the years so have an idea what to expect.

My question is What's New.

We have our old favourite restaurants, but wonder if any have gone out of business and closed down - or perhaps there any some new comers who are worthwhile.
We like local food in back street places where the tourists don't go - so we prolly won't go to ToTK Rd.
What's your fav place to eat Traditional Cy food, on a budget.
Thanks,

Difficult to answer clearly as we don't know which ones were your favourites, but regarding 'new' ones Gustoso on TOTK (even though you say you won't go there) is very good now the teething problems have been sorted.

I like out of the way places too but tend to go out of the town, maybe if you find any hidden gems while you're here you could tell us about them?

Hello Pickles, thanks for the tip about Gustoso - it's now on the To Do List [give me some idea whereabouts on ToTK it is, please]
Favs are places such as [in no priority] Alkion, Argo, Mothers, Pillar, Windmill.

Getting out of town is not easy as we have no car, coz it makes drink n' drive awkward with just the two of us.

Gustoso is almost opposite KFC. You could thy Karlina at the far end of the same block. Never had a bad meal there yet.

I go with Trev the Karlina is excellent value with good staff, recently gave it another go after many years, was pleasantly surprised, Vicky's comments are also correct, the Gustoso is very good, only problem we found was the size of the plates to the ratio size of the tables, too cramped for 4 people, also my fillet was still mooing. :) and no chips offered, just boiled hard veg, since heard you can order French fries although they were not on the menu

The Sienna still the best value around, they do a varied three course menu at under €14's incredible value, as it is top notch cooking by the owner Peter, and such a well run establishment, sit out in the rear garden on a warm night, overlooking the sea as the sun goes down, cannot beat this anywhere else I have tried.

Gourme Tavern at the bottom of Bar Street is our favourite , owned and run by Cypriots with fab food.
Sakura is a new Japanese opposite The Annabelle, it is really good - the kids love the Teppanyaki.
Keg and Barrel at the start of Bar Street is great for something quick.

The Lodge is near the Amathus Beach Hotel by the triangle, and Meat Academy is on Poseidonos too - passed it the other evening.

There's a new McDonalds on TOTK!

There is also a new place called Thessalonika, on the opposite side to Linakers, right at the end of Bar Street, near to Flambe. When we walked along Bar Street, after going to Flambe, it seemed one of the few places that was doing any trade. Traditional Greek and Cypriot food, and the husband does all the cooking. We spoke to his wife, who was very friendly with us, and gave us a menu.

Karlina last Saturday, only the fixed menu but this fish&chips was not good, as always I picked the wrong menu.

Staff were as usual excellent, plenty of free Brandy and coffee's, and a free plate of fresh fruit, great value.
