Traditional Christmas Day Lunch

Postby amber » 06 Nov 2011 16:15

I am trying to find restaurants and other eateries that will serve a traditional Christmas Day Lunch ie turkey and the trimmings and Christmas pudding. There are a few being advertised, but I am hoping to make a booking for 6 - 10 people.

It doesn't matter if it is waitress service or buffet style, just so long as they get their turkey and Christmas pudding!

It must be a No Smoking venue.

Apologies if this is in the wrong section

If you search back a few days there was a post about Christmas Day running already. You may find the info on it useful.

Vicky

I tried a search on "christmas" and the main subject it came up with was that airing cupboard .

That'll be Lloyd's best present then!
Maybe just going back a few pages rather than using the search function will find it for you, if not try Elysium!

The point is that the original poster seems to want the traditional home type Christmas Day dinner which may well be available in many establishments, but hotels like the Elysium (where I hope to go this year) make it into a luxury sumptious buffet costing about €60 (+). All very nice but if you just want was requested it's probably best to avoid any of the hotels and go for a more traditional UK run restaurant. Suggest maybe ring Hollies (although I've never been there) or Tweedies (which people may know as my favourite UK run restaurant in Kissonerga. 8)

Surely nothing wrong recommending a place, not breaking any rules, but I would have thought someone posting on here would want somewhere a little bit more special for Christmas Day (with apologies to Rumbletums  ) although there is said to be no such thing as bad advertising.

Tweedies, which is also my very favorite restaurant is closed on Christmas day. I'm sure it would have been a real treat.

Jo's Diner at Anarita ( via Timi ) is serving Christmas Lunch and Christmas Dinner. Eaten there today in fact and we were most satisfied.

The new RumbleTums is not just a breakfast place, it's a diner/restaurant too and as I'm sure you all know the chef in the evenings is Stuart who everyone raved about when he was at the Village Inn and the Prince. I'm sure whatever is on offer there at Christmas will be great.

I can thoroughly recommend the Aquamare for a traditional Christmas lunch buffet, been there 4 out of the last 5 years and never disappointed.

Thanks to everyone so far who has recommended various places - yes, we are looking for a simple traditional lunch at a reasonable price and I haven't been to any of these restaurants. So, over the next fortnight I shall go round these establishments and see what's on offer - perhaps someone could give me instructions for Rumbletums please.

It's on the Tombs of the Kings road coming out of Paphos heading towards Coral Bay.

Go past MacDonalds, KFC and the Venus Beach Hotel all on the left and there'll be an AGIP petrol station further along on the right, Rumble Tums is almost directly after this place next to a laundry. You can turn in and park on the rough ground.

I have eaten a couple of times at Hollies and the food is excellent. If I was looking for somewhere to have christmas lunch and Hollies were doing it, I would definitely consider it. Would Sienna's be doing christmas lunch, which much like Hollies does excellent food but Sienna's restaurant is better and, if I dare say... the staff are better!

It's just been posted that Sienna's is closing this Friday (hopefully only for the winter)

Sienna never opened on Christmas day anyway, more's the pity!

As promised, I went around the various venues mentioned by CL Forum Members and also a couple of others mentioned in local papers and have made a reservation at Georgie Porgies in Chloraka today for their Traditional Christmas Day Lunch. They have space for 4 more people. As well as a good menu, the cheerful staff and a homely atmosphere helped me make the decision.

It is the first time I have been there and I look forward to trying out their standard menu.

Most of the others are already taking booking, so please don't leave it too late to book!

The Elysium looks a favourite again this year but personally think the drinks are a bit expensive.

I agree with you about the Elysium drinks prices, but it's the whole sense of being part of a 'production' there that makes it all very special, and it's only once a year so what?!
It's not the sort of place you'd go to to get totally trolleyed, just enjoy a drink before lunch in the bar followed by a bottle of wine with your meal and perhaps a liqueur budget allowing.

The posting you are referring to above was posted in November 2011 so not necessarily accurate for 2013

This confusion has happened because 'Jersey' opened a few old threads yesterday. He even opened up the building of the new Promenade thread, which was last open in Jan: 2009
