Early Exit from Bailout?

Postby geoffreys2 » 17 Oct 2014 12:39

Today's Cyprus Weekly/In Cyprus reports:
"President targets early bailout exit for Cyprus"
It goes on to report this would be achieved by "selling off debts".
I am really starting to wonder if this guy is for real.
And where is the money coming from to fund the Minimum Income Guarantee?

Perhaps "Early Exit from Bailout" is shorthand for leaving the eurozone.

My OP clearly says "from today's Cyprus Weekly/In Cyprus".
The President's remarks were also reported on TV News.

If you look back to the start of this year , Anastasiades has been talking about an early exit a lot .
But he is not saying next week , but perhaps the end of 2015.

I think there is nothing wrong with being positive on the future of Cyprus.

Ireland made it out of their bailout , why shouldn't Cyprus ?

No it is not news, just continuing bad news, and the media quite correctly keep on reporting it as much as the President keeps on repeating it.
The country is more or less bust, fact.
Would the President get elected if there was an election now? I rather doubt it.

McIngy1:
You say "Sometimes you have to go bust to move forward..."
How right you are. Cyprus for its size (population/economic activity/GDP) is actually worse off than Greece.
At the start of this crisis here I predicted that Cyprus would finish up exiting the Eurozone, and I said then I thought that would
be the best solution for the Country.
I still feel that way, one reason is that the resultant devaluation (Euro>New Cyp£) would affect everyone equally.
In the meantime we see chaotic daft things like the IPT; hard to imagine anything being so badly managed/organized!
