I have never had a problem with my Mag254 but today it's all over the place. All channels bad buffering and when I change channels the subtitles automatically come on and I have to delete them each time. I thought it would have been down to the service provider but maybe it is Cyta instead. Hope it clears up quickly.

One hour later and all back to normal now, perhaps it wasn't Cyta after all! :-bd

Well isn't that weird! I had sub-titles mysteriously appear on all channels tonight. Took me a while to figure out how to get rid of them. I'd assumed I must have inadvertently hit a wrong button. Otherwise, service from the Mag was perfect.

How do you get rid of the subtitles because we have them on the News channel at the moment

EDIT 1... I found how to turn them off with the Mode Button on the remote..
EDIT 2. The subtitles are back again :-s

It was Cyta both my Mags running on different servers had the same problems, like Lloyds mysteriously subtitles appeared on BBC1 (these can be removed PM Jim if you wish to know how please) , maybe Cyta have water in the system. :-B

As often happens these problems are not always related to your IPTV provider but are internet related, some areas as always are not always affected Lloyd.

Are you sure that is for a Mag box, I don't recognize that method. Got rid of them on mine as Trev tried using the MODE button (showing the musical note)

I have a Magbox 250 and found that over the last couple of days if I selected the Mode button to turn off the subtitles on BBC1 or ITV they came back on when I selected the channel later. A bit frustrating because I like to flip through the news channels and change programmes when the news isn't very interesting!

By using the settings-playback-subtitles to OFF and click on OK to save the new settings the subtitles have not returned, even after turning the TV/Magbox off and on again.

I have been using the Mode button whenever I watch a film to get rid of the subtitles.

Could be wrong, but I thought I used the menu button on the remote. Certainly didn't come back last night; haven't switched on today yet.

Talking to several members today all were having problems Cyta as usual blame everyone but themselves, at this moment ( 5pm) both my systems with different servers are breaking up, internet speeds are erratic and not stable, this is the problem Cyta are having, lets hope they get it sorted out soon..screen

I have not got the subtitle problem today and this is easy to switch off, on your remote there is a music note symbol, click on it and a list will come up on the TV screen, click the cursor on your remote to down, click on subtitles to off.. this may not permanently stop this but it may..

After it being perfect last night it's playing up again now. I can't even get ITV, just coloured bands, but I can get ITV HD but with constant buffering. Seems obvious to me that it's not a CYTA problem and is definitely the service provider updating or something!

buffering

Postby darrow » 09 Dec 2016 19:02

I realise this is the wrong section but think people may see it sooner. For those affected by buffering on their T.V. the last two days, I have finally managed to contact Cyta, They are aware of a problem in Tala area but didn't realise Tremithousa was affected too. It is under investigation. so it is a Cyta problem not ITPV.. It might be helpful if anyone else in Tremithousa area who is affected ring them too.

Darrow in the recent thread on this topic I did say it was not the IPTV server but indeed Cyta. in my contact with Cyta they never mentioned at 6pm tonight as far as Cyta were concerned there is NO problems...Jim

My FilmOn is working fine but my Mag Box is playing up with fault messages from the server - so not all a Cyta problem.

CYTA did have a general problem yesterday, it should be resolved now.

Re: MAG portal providers - some (actually most) providers have a current issue with c-lines (Card sharing), so server errors are not due to CYTA.

Unfortunately it is not fixed Digby, I called them at 6pm and they did not say they had a problem as usual they said there was no problems at there end, really, at 8pm TV pictures are still stop starting, you do a speed test I use Ookla and all appears fine until you look at the graph, it is dipping and then spiking, I know you understand this problem .Digby, I will check again in the morning and Cyta did say they will send an engineer to me, I said many folks are having this problem especially with streaming TV, he just said it was Window 10 with a recent update, I nearly burst out laughing if I was not so cheesed off..

My FilmOn on my PCs is working but I am not a user, prefer catch up..lets hope they sort this out SAP.

Hi Jim,

I was having a similar problem with my MAG box 10 mins ago, now it seems ok. Internal speeds within the island seem ok, will do some tests to europe plus check the routing.

Jim, when i spoke to them at 7pm they told me there was a problem! the connection to the house was fine, it is something to do with the t.v. signal. the engineers were investigating but seemed to think it was localised to tala, but he said he would tell them to check our area too. he definitely knew about it as soon as i mentioned buffering.

My neighbour has the same problem and they have a different service provider.

Sat 10 am unfortunately I am still getting this on all my systems, sometimes like now all is well, but it does not last before all goes south again...I called Cyta this morning again with the same old spiel from them that there is no known problems, I said I have news for you that you do have a big problem, they "said" they would investigate, this can be a problem with Cyta and Primtel as they use Cyta systems. I hope it gets sorted and soon..

An 'expert' (and he IS an expert!) where I work tells me the problem is utter congestion on CYTA overseas data links caused by so many people streaming IPTV these days post-SKY direct satellite.
Other ISPs here use the CYTA overseas links - as CYTA have a monopoly.
The long term cure should be obvious - increase capacity.
You can avoid CYTA by using one of the global satellite internet providers, but they are VERY expensive.

i understand what you are saying Anne, but we have had iptv streaming quite a while and never had this problem before. Jim you must have got a different service advisor to me. he openly admitted it was a Cyta fault, which they were trying to resolve.

Three times I have contacted Cyta on 132 no Cyta agent said it was a fault at there end, so who do we believe? someone at the centre is telling us lies Darrow. Jim

Well if that were the case Anne, how come the service where we live is not in the least affected...and we use CYTA. We get perfect service night after night. And I use one of the iptv providers which Jim uses, so it's clearly not the iptv provider's fault. As Jim and others suspect, this is almost certainly a localised CYTA issue, affecting perhaps Tala and Tremithousa.

CYTA did greatly increase their capacity a year or two back, but as this involves laying submarine cables over hundreds of kms of ocean, this is not something which can be done overnight.

But as as I just said, I'm pretty sure this is a localised CYTA issue and not a national one.

Its 16:00 Saturday in the Tala area and the reception has been deteriorating since 15:00.

This is a repeat of a few weeks back.

If it was a problem with CYTA capacity we would have been aware of it virtually everyday in the last 12 months and so as we haven't I therefore assume it is a local issue.

It must be a Cyta problem if two independent servers are having the same problem, the answer is to complain to Cyta I have twice, so far the service is still very poor, on both my systems..

Also just to prove this point my Internet connection also is erratic, some times normal or as a few minutes ago getting drop outs, please all those concerned with this problem call Cyta on 132 and complain,,

I do not believe it is an international bandwidth issue, simply because we had little problems over the summer and there would have been several thousand uk-expats alone over all with tv boxes. I have done some tests to various European countries, and the routes all seem ok at present.

Holitec is confirming what I think we now know. A localised problem. Awful again tonight. I remember several years ago in U.K. after an heavy storm like we had a few nights ago, the service was affected. It took some time to find the fault but it turned out to be underground water ingress in a slight cut in one of the cables. Maybe something similar in this case.

Where ever the problem Cyta has at 7am today my internet died, then started up again enabling me to post this, I will be back on to Cyta later this morning just to hopefully put a little pressure on them to sort this out, it seems its a bandwidth problem to me, why it has just started last week? seems it is a fault with maybe a line trouble, as soon as users start there Internet usage the problems of low bandwidth starts, so another day of useless TV it seems.

I am with PrimeTel in Tremithousa and we have been having the same problems. Running a speedtest to Nicosia servers shows in excess of 10Mb but speedtests to 3 different iptv servers are returning 0.7, 1.9 and 1.7Mb respectively. Barely enough to stream.
I rang PrimeTel and they say there is no problem. I got my neighbour to call Cyta and they said that there is a problem that they are trying to resolve.
The only way to get this taken on board fully is for EVERYONE that has a problem to call their Internet provider and complain. There is certainly a failure (whether deliberate or not) at PrimeTel to correlate similar incidents or to even be aware when a Cyta problem is affecting PrimeTel customers.

It's noon on Sunday in Tala and TV reception is almost at a standstill as its buffering, stuttering and pixelating.

If the problem is CYTA then they are taking their own sweet time to fix the problem as this shockingly poor service has been going on now for nearly four days.

Hi, like a few people in the Tremithousa area I am with Primetel, on 16 Meg's however I am only getting 4/5 Meg's since Thursday night.

They are coming out to see why I am not getting 16 Meg's as they can see my speed through my router when we did the communications test, hard wired to my laptop. They can not understand it ????

Hopefully this isuuse will be fixed soon . I have been to 5 houses in my area with the same issue in Tala, Tremithosa and Mesogi, very frustrating.

I also have been having buffering with my Mag250 box, but yesterday was terrible. Watched the football from 5pm, but unbearable. All the way til 11pm. Other nights during the week buffering went on from around 8pm for an hour.
Im with Primetel and run speed tests and always get what I pay for which is a speed of 10 or just under.
Hope this gets sorted quickly.
