I have a Sony Vaio laptop. This morning, when I switched it on, I got the Windows Error Recovery Screen. I pressed the 'Start Windows Normally' key, and the machine seems to be starting up. I get the 'Starting Windows' logo, but it seems to be sticking at this point. After a while, I switched the machine off, and rebooted it. I then opted for the 'Restore ' option, which I thought would fix things. Sadly, it hasn't. Also tried 'Startup Repair' which runs for ages, and didn't fix the problem. I got the message 'windows cannot repair this computer automatically' I'm not sure where to go after this. Does anyone have any suggestions please? I'm very untechy!

Sadly, I'm in the UK at the moment, and not due in Cyprus for a while. I'd hoped one of you clever, techy-type people might have been able to suggest something. I've had my laptop only approx 18 months, and it's had very light use, so didn't think it would be something serious. Probably wrong. I managed to run 'Safe Mode' though I'm not sure that did anything. The machine 'fires up', but sticks at the Windows logo.

If you can get in to safe mode try running system restore from their and see if the fixs it!
You have nothing to lose trying this.
If you can save any data to a flash drive in safe mode, just in case the machine needs a new drive or reload.
do you have recovery discs for the computer.

Hi Paul, thanks for further advice. I'll try Safe Mode again today.
We moved house recently, and I suspect my folder with all my computer stuff, inc the recovery disc, is in a box. I'll look for that today.
