If you hold a QROPS & return to the UK it is treated in exactly the same way as a SIPP (self invested personal pension). So essentially you have an expensive SIPP.
The tax advantages of a QROPS (i.e. no tax on beneficiaries taking the remaining fund as a lump sum on death) disappear.
If you are in this position it is possibly best advice to see if it is possible to move your QROPS into a SIPP.
Generally our advice is, if you are some years away from retirement, a SIPP may be better for you for exactly this reason. If at retirement you are still intent on living outside of the UK you can consider a QROPS at that point.
Let me know if you need any more info.
All the best
