Is it possibly Steve Welsh who regularly appears at "The Brewery" in Peyia? If so I agree he's a very funny guy, especially when he ends the night's entertainment with his rendition of "You can keep your hat on".

According to Google, Loose Women is a "panel show". So how can one woman off a "panel show" keep an audience entertained for a whole evening.

I must be missing the point. But there again I don't watch ITV.

Jane McDonald shot to fame 18 years ago on a TV programme called "The Cruise." A live spy on the wall type programme about life on board Celebrity Galaxy cruise ship. She became very famous as singer as she has an amazing voice. Yes, she used to appear on Loose Women as well, but left some years ago to carry on her singing career.
She is a down to earth Yorkshire lass and very talented.
The three shows she has done in Cyprus this week have all been raved about.
The concert last night in Pissouri was just wonderful. She is very funny and a great singer. Steve Walls I had not heard of him till last year when he appeared at the Pissouri venue as compare comedienne. He was very funny last night and it was an awesome show. I love it and she looked fabulous in the most gorgeous Grecian style gown.

Glad you enjoyed the concert. Unfortunately we are in the UK at the moment, but will be definitely going to see Sam Bailey again when she appears in September. She was brilliant last year, and her support act were incredibly funny. Well worth the admission price for a professionally produced concert.
No doubt someone will ask, "Who is Sam Bailey?" I can assure everyone that even though she is an xfactor winner, she will appeal to everyone, young and old alike.

I agree Pickles! No one ever said she was a top artist but that she had had some success and thank goodness that some of these artists are willing to perform in Cyprus.
I remember going to see Acker Bilk and Kenny Ball at the Coral Bay Hotel and they were brilliant albeit due to age possibly coming to the end of their career but thank goodness they agreed to play to such a small audience there.
In my opinion I would rather see the original artist rather than all the tribute bands.

I find some of the comments on here pretty rude.
Here in Cyprus we do not get many good cultural events as we are rather lacking in the entertainment stakes. Afterall, we are not New York London or Sydney.
BTW Jane McDonald has appeared in all these cities as well. Plus a another bit of info on her. She is the Face of Joseph Ribkoff clothing ;;)

For a number of years we have been seeing tribute bands all over the place the same ones appear yearly here in Pissouri and that is good as we are all a bit sad after been here for years in the sun, and starved of decent entertainment.
Last year Sam Baily came here and like some people I had never heard of her, but she was excellent and very professional.
Jane McDonald may not be a mega diva or super star but she is a well known artist, rather then a tribute act and she had an amazing professional stage presence and came over as a genuine nice lady.
She did a concert at Carol Bay the previous night and also one in Limassol. She got great reviews from all three venues.
I don't only go see a concert if I feel I know they artist. I was at the recent Koukia Royal Manor House , Pharos Arts foundation concerts. I knew non of the artists before I went and they were all awesone musicians. Loved it and a great concert.
Sometime we need to open our minds about what is going on around us. I appreciate the fact some one goes to a lot of trouble to bring better entertainment to the island.

Lyceum Productions have now pulled the plug on all future concerts in Cyprus. I understand this is because of lack of support at the Jane McDonald concerts. Such a shame as she was fantastic!
People stayed away due to the price as €50 for a front row seat in the amphitheatre was just too much for most people who will not pay that to sit on a hard step or even on your own cushion. Shame as she was good but the promoter got it wrong. Less price would have generated more people.
Sam Bailey concert now off and the other concerts he had arranged.

Yet another promoter over-charging.

We wanted to see the Amarillo man, but again too expensive.

The performers probably want 5* accommodation for them and their entourage plus bottles of shampoo in their changing rooms on the night which boosts prices.

No, that is not true. The promoter puts them all up in the Hill View apartments in Pissouri Village. nice enough apartments but just the usual basic stuff. They could have been staying at the 5 star Columbia Beach Resort, but no just a regular apartment. Plus I read on the Internet last night it only costs €300 to hire the amphitheatre. If seats had been more Cyprus prices rather than London prices the place would have been full. Shame really.

Yet again the C/living know it alls. Got it wrong again. ..the price of the tickets were 30 euros. The 50 euro tickets were VIP tickets .which gave you free drinks front row seats and a meet and greet after the show.
When you consider the cost to stage this type of show. 30 euros good value.
Stop knocking the organizers. I admire them for trying

Probably due to the fact that Cyprus is microscopic by comparison to the UK so the % of fans is therefore far less? Plus also I imagine some Expats that may have gone have already fled the heat of Summer!

I really do think that Lyceum Productions would be quite within their rights to wash their hands of Cyprus completely after the extremely negative comments that have been levelled at them! Someone tries to bring a bit of proper entertainment to a small Mediterranean island and what do they get? Hassle, criticism and mud slinging!

Stick to your karaoke, singers with backing tapes & so-called 'tribute' acts!

Agree Vicki...and Andypandy. Some of the complainers have no idea how much work, effort and expense would be involved in bringing entertainers over to Cyprus and organising events. The production company can hardly be blamed for thinking "Why bother?" when all they get is criticism, moans and accusations of profiteering.

Last night there was another concert a Pissouri Ampitheatre, a show that comes most years. The Jersey Boys. A tribute band. It was €15 euros entrance fee and I have never seen the amphitheatre so full for a number of years. There must have been around 1000 people there and it was a great atmosphere to see everyone there dressed for the heat in a sea of bright colours. Many up dancing on the space available and it was non stop music and dancing.
Now Jane McDonald was very professional and an excellent show but the cost put people off and it proved last night that if the price had been around €20 or even €22-50 getting bums on seats is what matters and the promoter of Jane's concert got it wrong, which was a huge shame as she was so good.

I think Simply Red are fantastic but sadly, I cannot stand to look at Mick Hucknall - one of the most unattractive men I've set eyes on. Even now when I hear him sing, I see his face. It's very disconcerting.

So, I guess that's one concert I won't be going to see ;)

I never liked Jane MacDonald either - just not my cup of tea but we have other friends who say she is fantastic.

We've gone with them to Pissouri ampitheatre several times to see the tribute bands Queen, Elvis, Bee Gees etc but find those events which have the highest attendance are where you can get up and dance. However, several of the shows encourage the audience to stay seated in the first half and dance only in the second part of the show, which again - can be off-putting.

Let's face it - Cyprus is pretty starved of decent bands/shows where you can get down and boogie, something which most folks enjoy while they're still able. Perhaps it's something the organisers of such events can bear in mind when putting the shows together?

Don't you think it's strange that a group imitating another group can get a full house at €15, whereas an "original" singer at €5 or so more can't.

Each to their own, but personally, I can never see the point of "tribute bands". Having been to see one at Tala, I would rather sit on the patio at home listening to a recording of the original artist(e)(s). After all, would you listen to a recording of a "tribute band"? Of course not.

Long story short ...
Betley Court Farm as about 15 miles from here.
Last year we went to see Sir Tom Jones there. He sounded great but we couldn't see a darn thing.
It took us about 45 minutes to get in and then afterwards .... one and a half hours to get home (70 minutes on the car park and 20 minutes driving on the road!!!)
Mrs B wrote a strongly worded letter to the promoters, telling them that it would have been quicker to drive the 60 miles to the NEC.
They gave us 2 free tickets for this year's gig! :-bd

>>I think Simply Red are fantastic but sadly, I cannot stand to look at Mick Hucknall

I concur!
Fabulous singer and songs but ...... and he's a Manunited supporter!

I'm a bit shocked here. How can you hate someone you have never met who has never done you any harm?

OK, he has ginger hair, is short, is from Manchester - that maybe enough reason in itself - but can't your wife live and let live?

We saw the "Beatles" at Pafos harbour a couple of years ago. We got what we expected, however, members of the audience got up and started dancing, result, no-one could see the "turn". As we couldn't see them, we left.

Pity, because we were enjoying the show.

Morning all,

I have a pretty eclectic taste when it comes to music.....anything from classical too Rock, as long as they have a great voice, & ( though pretty unattractive as he is ), I believe Mick Hucknall has one, I have the ' Stars ' album by Simply Red & in my opinion it's a great album from start to finish :)
