Have to agree with that last post, did see the Simply Red playing this album in the mid nineties "Stars" tour at the NEC in Brum, and they were excellent, we all have different taste in music, I would not go across the road to listen to Mcdonald (no A in her surname), in fact we did not need to we could hear her in our back yard..

Alan I saw the Bootleg Beatles at the harbour many years ago ( when I saw them it was about 10 years ago though, they played at Coral Bay beach on the same tour, with all those wigs and suites on too, they must have been soaked as it was at mid-day!!,) I had the seat next to the sound man, he kept forcing me to have several beers with him, a great show it was too, I am a lucky chap seen the real Beatles several times in the 60's, Helen Shapiro being the main attraction one of those nights..

Don't you think it's strange that a group imitating another group can get a full house at €15, whereas an "original" singer at €5 or so more can't.
Each to their own, but personally, I can never see the point of "tribute bands". Having been to see one at Tala, I would rather sit on the patio at home listening to a recording of the original artist(e)(s). After all, would you listen to a recording of a "tribute band"? Of course not.[/quote]

I don't think it is strange. People like to be entertained and they like a good night out maybe singing and a dance which is what usually happens at the ampitheatre concerts here. They will pay €15 or even €20 but balk at €50 and €30.
People will not pay top price as there are so many acts on during summer. One or two a week.
Sheila Ferguson came here a month ago, brought over by the same promoter who brought Jane McDonald and the month before Tony Christie. All three concerts in Pissouri were no where near full.
I said to friends are you going to see them and NO was the answer as they said they €30 was too expensive and the VIP price at
€50 was a non starter. Five people bought these tickets in Pissouri for the Jane McDonald show and four tickets were bought by four ladies who travelled from the UK to see all three of Jane's concerts as they were part of her fan club. I know one of the ladies.
Most locals here would not pay €50 each to sit on a cushion on the front row and receive a glass of cheap bubbles. They can take their own bubbles and cushion and do just that.
BTW there were no CD's as the promoter told me they had too much luggage to bring them. A CD was part of the VIP package. So yes, shame the guy had a go at bringing decent acts, love them or hate them and it failed due to over pricing and lack of advertising and relying on a small island to support these acts. He tried I will give him that, :P So bravo to him, and those of us who saw Jane's concert we all loved it. I hope she comes again next year under a different organisation.

Tribute bands go where the original acts do not go Peggy, Mcdonald as far as I am aware sings covers almost exclusively, this would be covers from original artist, so she is a living walking tribute act.

I have seen some amazing tribute bands in my life many of my favourite bands, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan all were excellent and dedicated to the original acts we will probably never see in England and most certainly Cyprus, if you enjoyed this lady covered music then good for you, this is what it is about.

Can we please finish with this topic now PLEASE...

Jane writes her music as well as singing songs by other writers.
I went to see her as I admire her as another Yorkshire lass who has done well. I enjoyed her show.
I am not big fan of tributes acts peferring to see the "real" thing especially when I lived in London. I have seen the Beatles in their hey day along with many famous bands so tribute acts are just that. Paying tribute to some great has beens.
Sadly this is not London
and in Cyprus we are lucky these days to get live entertainment as 25 years ago all we did was listen to the same old Cypriot music in all the bars. Good we have talented people around and BTW why do you need to finish with a topic that people are debating about music?
