Check the date on your yeast-- I use the local quick dried yeast -- no probs. What a bummer when you go to all the bother of kneading then it wont rise :wink: Marj

Oh i know how that goes as well! Always use Lion brand or similar and never had any problems. DId you make sure the liquid wasn't too hot, if you did it by hand rather than in machine?

Was the liquid tepid rather than hot, as too hot stop yeast working effectively.

Only have you water hot enough to keep your finger in for a couple of seconds-- I sometimes sprinkle the yeast onto the hot water and leave till it froths up good for when your making hot x buns. Marj
