Aloe Vera plant

Aloe Vera plant

I have adopted a medium size aloe vera plant in a pot, bearing in mind I am the Grim Reaper of the plant world I hope it's quite self sufficient - can I just cut the dead brown leaves off the bottom?
My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dogs already think I am!
