Eye test for driving licence

Postby lincoln » 03 Nov 2015 14:58

The Citizens Service Centre, advises "You only need a Dr's test-The Hospital Dr says "you need and eye test at the eye clinic. I go to the eye appointment desk. No Eye Dr. is available all this week ARGH! Back to the Citizens Centre inform them. Go to a private DR? OK off to Blue Cross, see the GP and thorough exam and an EYE test.Back to the C.S.C. got a ticket and half an hour later all done. Total cost €3.00 at the Hosp wasted. €35.00 for Blue Cross.
So get the form from the Citizens Centre and go to a private GP.

I hope this may be of help to some of you. :)

Got my 70yr old licence recently - just had to have medical check (chose Dr Mala) - then at Transport Department off Polis Road I was asked to read a car number plate out of a window, that was my eye test! 8) Got my plastic licence (free) couple of weeks later.

I have had two 'medicals' for an over 70's licence now.
The first one was at the General, where I first had to queue to register and then wait a short while to see someone at the optical department. Mt eyes were tested and notes written on a form.
I then had to go upstairs and wait for the GP who was dong licence check ups that day. She checked the notes in my file and asked a few questions. She then completed the medical form for me to take to the Driving centre.

The second time (this year) I went to see doctor Mala at a pre arranged appointment. She looked at my files and asked a few questions and took my BP. She filled in the form, I paid my money and went to the driving centre.
I (and my wife) will use Dr Mala again, it's a lot easier with your own GP.

When you get quite ancient the insurance company also wants all the tests from their select list of doctors, eye specialists and a friend tells me that a letter from a neurological doctor was also required.

Yes, for car insurance. The insurers will tell you who they approve for the letter. Doc's are now being super cautious because they can now be fined if they give the OK to someone when in reality they should not. This new requirement will undoubtedly result in more uninsured and unlicensed drivers on Cyprus' roads!

No link, just experience from my friend whose insurance renews in December. If you mean about Doc's being fined, look it up yourself on CM archive.

I was just enquiring about the requirement of insurance companies. Have been with the same company for 10 years and now well over the wrong side of 70 but have never been asked for any sort of medical evidence.

I have heard that there's an insurance company situated near the Ktima Market that will insure anyone regardless of their medical condition! I would imagine that this will come at a heavy cost and possibly a heavy price for someone who they might maim or kill in the process of driving, when really they shouldn't be on the road!!
