Explorer Pop Ups

Postby Jim B » 19 Feb 2016 17:23

When I open CL or any other page on Chrome Explorer there isn't any problem but as soon as I try to open a topic another web page opens; usually an advertisement. They are not Pop Ups but completely new pages. This happens on everything I try to open and is very annoying, any ideas please.

Jim
Two of the most popular web browsers are Internet Explorer and Google Chrome ;) although I suspect that it doesn't matter which one you use.

I assume that this is on a Windows computer, and I'm not sure it really matters which browser you are using.
I suspect that you have some sort of malware so ....
Go to this page
https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/
and near the bottom click on 'download'
Do *NOT* accept a free trial of the 'premium version'
Once downloaded, install the program (making sure that you don't install any other free trials of stuff as you go) and then run a full scan of your system.
This may take quite a while, but when it has finished, do as recommended (probably quarantine or remove) then restart your computer and see how you get on.

Do let us know!

Good luck

You beat me to it!

When you install Malwarebytes' AntiMalware keep an eye on the windows as you go through the install and untick the Free Trial or the Pro version.

This should sort out any Malware and some Adware - if not after using it and rebooting test Chrome and if you are still getting Ads then try this excellent free program - AdWcleaner..

I would be interested to know why the last two posters seem to be against the 'pro' or 'premium' version.

I actually have the pro version which is very good at blocking bad IP addresses in real time but it will have serious clashes with other antivirus programs unless you know how to set up many exceptions for services and DLLs in BOTH MBAM and your Antivirus program. In this particular situation the free version is just as good as the pro version for cleaning out very many items of malware or PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) as a "one-off" exercise. It should do the job perfectly
