Postby Molly » 03 Jun 2016 09:49

Can someone tell me in simple steps please what to do when I get this message when trying to access a site?

'Avast Web Shield has blocked access to this page because the following certificate has been revoked'

Many thanks

I don't know what it 'means', but on my browser (Firefox) I have the Avast Web Shield disabled!
As long as Avast is running quietly in the background, do you need it 'webshield' as an extra?

As far as I am aware, the Avast Antivirus service is only free for a short period. Am I correct?

I have been using the free version of Avast antivirus since 2003 and it upgrades automatically. Sometimes I get a dialogue box telling me my computer is running slow or Avast has found some problems and if I click on this then it sends me to a page suggesting the Premium Service which requires payment. Never had any problems on the three computers I use.

I also use Adblock Plus which is free to cut down on the number of adverts that used to pop up whenever I opened any website. This can be personalised to each website ie disabled without having to change all the settings.

Computer SOS set up my new computer 18 months ago and put on Avast and Adblock - been running smoothly since.

I have used many different AV software over the years, but for the last several years I bought a copy of Kaspersky AV well worth paying a few euros for this anti-virus, have to say it knocks all the freebies into a cocked hat..no flash messages either. Dont take a chance with your systems.

about €22 at SOS..for a year.

Jim.

About a year ago I took my laptop to SOS for a repair. When I got it home I discovered they had removed the Kaspersky and replaced it with Avast. On questioning them, they said the Kaspersly was slowing down the performance! I've had no problems with Avast.

I have Kaspersky on all three of my PC's, two desktops and one Tablet device, it does not slow any of them down, incidentally the disc was purchased from Brian at SOS in fact for the last two years, for €22's a bargain, cheaper than downloading it from the Kasperkye site..

Only thing I can think off is your laptop is getting on and maybe slow? Maybe think of getting an SDD disc fitted, really fast then.(Solid state drive)

PC mag.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus (2016) looks a little different from last year's model, but it still delivers excellent protection, as proven by its excellent scores in independent lab tests and our own hands-on tests.

Kaspersky

Postby LectricShox » 23 Jun 2016 10:30

Hi. Views please.

Those of you running Kaspersky, is it anti-virus or internet security (most later versions of Windows have a quite an efficient firewall, I believe)?

How do find one or other performs? I have Windows 8.1 ( =)) ), but with a hybrid ssd fitted. The reason I'm asking is because my usual a/v, Eset, has now become quite expensive as availability is only direct or Amazon (who no longer seem to discount it - not for the last 6 months anyway).

Thanks in advance.

If you have W8.1, have you considered changing to W10?

For my W7 PC, I always used Avast (free) anti-virus and Windows Defender (free) internet security.

On my new (W10 PC) I use the same

Never had a problem with either.

Good morning all.

Most freebies AV I have used have faults, I have used Kaspersky for several years trouble free, it cost me from Computer SOS about €22 a year, I use Windows 10 on all of my PC's, some have posted it runs your PC's slowly, not found this but all my equipment use SSD drives and up to date, so far in my PC life Kaspersky is the best I have used, just it cost €22 a year and not free, probably a good reason to purchase a copy ( one copy cover two PC's ) ***** in my opinion.

It is both Internet and an AV security.

Totally agree with you Jim. Lost count of the amount of family/friends that I have had to rescue due to poor a/v - mostly of the free variety. I can hear the echoes of "I've used so & so free for years without a problem, etc." Well, if you're happy, who am I to try and convert you........?

But back to my original question, views on Kaspersky please. I asked this question because my personal favourite, Eset, is now prohibitively expensive.

In honesty, I bought a copy of Kaspersky Internet Security for 5 devices a couple of months ago at £16 (Amazon). Just wanted opinions before I install............... :)
