A Guide to Retiring to Cyprus

I am currently writing an ebook which hopefully will pull together all the information and advice we have received since retiring to Cyprus nearly two years ago. It will have sections on all the areas that confront people when they arrive (and the planning before they arrive), where to go, who to see, what to do and what not to do. I am writing a blog which will detail the progress I am making, together with other "bloggish" posts about life here. The end result, I trust, will be a one-stop resource for people making their way here.

Thanks for those comments. My take on this may well turn out to be different and cover things that others might consider minutiae but - for us - were important parts of the jigsaw. And it's going to be fun to do ... although a little too warm yesterday for much creativity.

I didn't set out on this to see what money could be made from it, and haven't really considered that aspect of things yet. I'm up to the armpits in the nuts and bolts of creating my magnum opus, and my first priority is to write an informative, accurate handbook to retiring to the island that so many of us have fallen in love with. I trust it will be an easy read, with a little humour and lots of "Top Tips".

Comparing costs of living in various countries is a difficult and potentially explosive issue, and my intention is to compare like with like in the two countries I know - the UK and Cyprus.

My wife and I both contribute in practical terms to ensure poverty is alleviated in our village, and I am working with the Mukhtar and the village council to raise both money and awareness of the village to bring additional income to Argaka. For example I am producing an all-singing and dancing website for the village, for example, at no cost as a contribution to our village, as we have been told we are "villagers" now. Ann is planning a series of local events at which a substantial percentage of the money raised will go into the village fund to help the local needy.

Who knows what will happen in the future? If my book hits the top of The Sunday Times' best seller list, I may fill my swimming pool with champagne and howl at the moon

MacManic,i dont wish to sound negative (which i am not that type of person) but the laws,rules,regulations and the like change that much and so rapid out here on the island that you will have to be at your computor every second of every day to bring your ebook up to date.Never the less if its something you want to do,,then go for it

The delight of an ebook is that it can updated quite quickly and easily, and people can always download the latest version.

I suppose this is a labour of love and if it helps one person make an easy transition to living here, it will have been worth it. There is so much "information" on the internet which is little more than ill-informed opinion dressed up as fact, and which is then repeated ad nauseam until it appears to be true.

All of us who live in this area of Cyprus know it is the hidden jewel in the crown, and there is an inevitability that writing about Cyprus will be influenced by those things you know best. But I can't tell too many people about the joys of this part of the island because it would then be possibly overcrowded. So no self-interest there

As a footnote I shall not be concerning myself with information or advice or opinion about living in the occupied areas. Too political and that's not what this is about.
