This is one of the Venetian bridges just the other side of Agias Nikkolas (sorry about spelling) on the way to the Troodos, same road as Extreme View Café but probably another 40 mins on.

We went with friends to visit these bridges, had a wonderful day, a such a change from beaches. Well worth the trip but the road was tricky in places as I remember.

Gelafou Bridge!

Best visited in Winter driving a 4x4 when you can take advantage of the deserted forest tracks used in many Internationl rally stages!

We went there two days ago, our second visit after Easter when we came down from Mylikouri which is a great little track.
This time we came down from Troodos again but via Prodromos and then Kaminaria. Also a very nice drive.
There was a soft ice cream van there this time (Sunday!) but sadly hardly any water left in the stream unlike at Easter when there was plenty of flowing water.
Highly recommended to visit. Much cooler than down here as well.

We took a tour around some of the Venetian Bridges a couple of summers ago.... but starting from the Limassol side of the island and driving to them through Paphos Forest. We had a few "hairy" moments on those roads.

I did a blog post on it here:
https://cypruslifeinpictures.wordpress. ... #more-7907

And photos along the route through the forest to Elias Bridge and Tzielefos Bridge and by Arminou Dam can be found here:

There are quite a few interesting articles about the Venetian Bridges of Cyprus which can be found quite easily through Google.

The road there is absolutely fine - we know it as kefalos Bridge and in the winter the river can be quite high and flowing fast. I shall never forget when some friends came with us and insisted on me crossing the river to the other side supposedly to find another bridge. I was quite nervous but we did have an HRV at the time so made it over OK and the track was not too bad , lovely picnic area not far along but then there were no signs and we got on the old camel trails - scary?? You can say that again!! - no way of turning back so we just had to keep going about 10mph for what seemed like forever but in reality was probably about 15 miles and we ended up in Vretsia, an abandoned turkish village but which the photographers in our party got some excellent pictures!!. The road from there on was not too bad and we ended up near to Shoufos Winery. A day out I shall never forget but which I will never repeat!!

I pronounce it that way too Shelagh but Chris says it as i typed it so I bow to his superior knowledge!

Last Spring we discovered a similar bridge between the army camp in Kissonerga and the Mavrokolympos dam whilst off roading amongst the burnt remains of the terrible forest fire in that area last Summer, it was strikingly similar and probably long forgotten as when the trees grow back it'll be hidden & inaccessible once again!
