Some random Cyprus pics...

Postby Happy in Cyprus » 12 Jul 2015 02:39

I visited a customer in Chloraka last week just as the family cat pounced on what turned out to be a black snake. The type of snake wasn't apparent until after I dared get closer. Think it was a black snake, though it had a white underbelly. The snake was quickly and efficiently dispatched and said proud cat lay alongside the snake jealously guarding it's kill. It got quite uppity when I dared get close, as if to say "This is my kill, go and catch your own mate" Three pics in sequence, taken over just 2-3 mins.

Next pic: a flock of sheep being herded, with the help of German Shepherd dogs, through a residential development in Pervolia. The car was stationary (before the forum police pounce ;) )

Next, taken in Paphos: the name on the ice cream van just tickled me. Car was again stationary. A better class of ice cream van, obviously =))

Great pics - just grabbed Snake George' guidebook as I automatically assume black ones are the harmless whip snakes so this was a younger one with the pale pink underbelly!

Tks Vicky. Makes you wonder: do cats instinctively know that Black Snakes are not poisonous...or did I read somewhere that cats are impervious to snake venom?

Ooh no cat's are not immune to venom, sadly we do see/hear about pet cat victims, but rarely about the feral ones!

I think there may be an inbred instinct to try and avoid but my my next door neighbour's cat very kindly presented her with a dead BNV one day!

I felt sorry for that poor snake, it has no chance of survival, nice pics thanks Loyd. Feed those cats!!!

That poor sheep dog looks like it has had enough!!

We had 2 of our cats playing with a snake near our bbq last week and like the one above, would not let it go. (One of them was bitten by a snake 2 years ago, you would think she'd know better)!

Interesting pictures Lloyd & pic5 cleared up my dilemma when driving in Cyprus. What are the white lines for at junctions. Your rear wheels should be as close as possible =))

You're right Norv, many Cypriot-owned vehicles have dodgy brakes, which causes them to shuffle forward relentlessly at traffic lights until they are halfway through the junction. Possibly due to a lack of maintenance =))
