Couple of quick questions...

Postby Happy in Cyprus » 18 Dec 2016 16:53

...which have arisen today.

1) Where in Paphos can you buy guavas? Wife's never seen them.

2) Is the London Sausage Company still trading? We're not keen on Kolios sausages.

1) Certainly in AlphaMega, I've been eating them for the last month or so but it's pretty late in the season for them now.

2) Not sure but I see no reason why not - I bought sausages there not long ago and agree they are better than most others you can buy.

I fancy planting a guava tree in my garden - does anyone know of a garden centre which might sell them?

Thank you both for your replies. Funnily enough Austin 7, I thought the very same thought this evening. My interest was spiked by this article from the Sunday Mail earlier this year.

All sounds too good to be true but no wonder I like them so much. I believe some people peel them before eating but I just bite into them skin as well. You do however have to careful not to bite into them too hard as they contain edible but very hard little 'pips'.

It's on the coast road at Kissonerga between the old Buyrite shop and the Crazy Spoon snooker hall

Wife was rather under-whelmed with the East London Sauasage Co when she popped in there on Wednesday, but she did buy some pork sausages to try out. No sausage meat, so she bought today from Kolios.

Beware of eating too many guavas (when you have your own tree you will) as this
can easily lead to Appendicitis. As soon as the fruit is fresh available there are suddenly
hundreds of cases with Appendicitis in CY. A couple of fruits won't hurt you.

Thanks for the heads-up, but not likely to affect me. Had my appendix taken out as a kid.

But I wonder why it has this effect?

So it is true. My grandpa used to warn us not eat the guava seeds because they can into the appendix and get stuck in there. He said it may cause appendicitis because those seeds are arent able to digest by the stomach so it will flow downwards to your appendix . I thougt it was just a mere belief from the elderly people

yeah that's true! guava seeds are too hard so our digestive system cant digest it..and too small that sometimes nit goes to our appendix..when eating guavas, remove the seeds.
