Can anyone tell me the cheapest place to buy a new portable gas fire near Paphos and where the cheapest gas can be found ?

When buying gas or electrical products we never buy "cheap". We only buy from authorised shops that have lots in stock. Gas prices are set by the Government and are pretty much the same Island-wide.

I have to agree with Alan. You cannot be too careful with gas fires and ensure that the one you buy has an automatic cut off should dangerous fumes present.

Superhome has gas fires for €49 and Home Market the same for €54 and then you buy the hose/regulator on top but they're not too dear. The price of gas is set by the government with supermarkets/petrol stations usually being the cheapest, peripteros/kiosks are dearer.

I don't know if you have pets or not, but if you have be aware that animal tails can catch fire from these heaters. It happened to my cat, luckily I was there, I scooped him up fast and dunked him in the washing up bowl. No harm done, but if I hadn't been in the room .........

As has been said don't go for the cheapest, they can be very dangerous, you get what you pay for.

Make sure you get a carbon monoxide alarm - very cheap and could, and have done, save lives!

We smelled burning one night, it was our dog's tail on fire from the gas heater which is why we never go out and leave them on anymore.

If you do buy a fire from 'mickey mouse', I would suggest that you get a new regulator and hose from a reputable dealer.

Have at last got a portable gas heater for our freezing apartment. Used it for the first time yesterday. It is a Chant model. All was fine and had it on high to warm place through. In the evening turned it down to one burner and after about an hour the flame started jumping and being noisy and it cut out. We waited a while and relit and the same thing happened. Opened the patio doors and it worked fine but not ideal as was flipping cold. Partner said it cut out as used up the oxygen but surely this shouldn't happen that quickly. The fire does have safety cut out. Does anyone else have this problem ?

Please tell me you have a CARBON MONOXIDE detector !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If not get one before using it again - you life could be at risk.

Looks as if it has a built in detect for CM, this is what happens when they detect CM. I dislike this form of heating myself, but do leave a small window open when in use.

Yes it has a built in detector and yes have now been told to leave a window open. {GOOD)
