A bit of advice

Postby Kop end red » 16 Nov 2016 10:40

Anyone contemplating going to Nicosia by bus. Avoid the town centre like the plague. Bus terminal and side streets overflowing .no parking anywhere.better to go to the super home centre for parking and the bus across the road by the stadium. Bus left on time arrived 20 mins late after trying to navigate Pafos roadworks and subsequent traffic jams everywhere.

I noticed on Monday that the road from its junction with Ag. Pavlos in the direction of the market is now one way with half the road blocked off. Thus traffic coming from the harbour direction can not turn left and all must continue up the hill. Also at the top of the hill traffic from the one way section of Makarious Ave (from Kennedy Sq)toward the old town has to push into the already very busy sole main road passing the town. Trouble is that due to the anxiety to finish everything before the end of the year more roads are being closed and dug up before the others have been finished...
Hence we have virtual grid lock. Very frustartating if you are in a hurry! Best take an alternative route to avoid the town centre unless you have to go there!

I got caught out by another road change of use this morning! The road which passes the market is now closed from just beyond the big carpark if you are coming into the old town from Chloraka....
However the road which cones out near the Haman is now open again!
According to the girl who I spoke to in M&S food store in the old town, next week the road up to M&S will be open again both ways from Ag Pavlos Ave. but you will be diverted out of town via the big carpark below the market....

She also told me that M&S are going to move some of their Christmas goodies to a new location in the Mall, for the conveniience of customers! So watch out for that move! However the existing shop in the old town will still be open.

B-T-W some of the shops in Makarios Ave are open just in the mornings! Biut having been there today, you go at your own risk as they are doing parts of the street, first by laying reinforcing rods over the road surface, to be concreted over later on. The whole area is very dangerous! There is no health and safety at all!
