The Curry House (Bar Street)

I've finally found a decent curry in Paphos, but can't believe it's taken me 9 months to find it!

Raj and Ursula have certainly got the mix right - pleasant surroundings, lovely menu (with guides regarding heat!), knowledgeable staff (including genuine Indian chefs!), large portions and very good value for money.

I can't wait to go back - they have a Fb page, a website and also do takeaways & deliveries. Once a month on a Sunday they have a buffet of traditional dishes that aren't on the regular menu.

Contacts number is already in CLs index.

Just out of interest Vicki, could take-away curries be frozen in bulk for later consumption? Sadly, wife and daughter don't like spicy food, so we'll never be going there for a meal, but if it was possible to freeze for home consumption, that would be great. I know you'll have the answer :-bd

Of course Curries can be frozen for later use, always make a batch of them, even the rice...Jim

Oh yes of course they can be frozen then defrosted and reheated thoroughly as required!

I tried to check out the menu from their Facebook page but only get a 404 page error, which is disappointing...

However, the reviews on TripAdvisor look favourable and I noticed they're not all from people in Paphos ;)

What I would really like to hear is if anyone has been to The Curry House and to Saffron in Pissouri (and also had the Sunday buffet at Pissouri because we were bitterly disappointed with the offerings there). We like our curries to be tasty but spicy, something sadly lacking on the buffet menu at Saffron.

Unless someone has a copy of the menu at The Curry House they can either put up a photo or a link.

We won't make the trip as a special visit without seeing the menu.

Go their website as opposed to the Fb page and you should be able to see it on there.

No I've never been to Saffron, Pissouri is a tad too far to go for a curry in my opinion!

I'd love to - but everything takes me to their FB bloody page which directs you to "ask" for their website address, which based on my past experiences result in no responses.

Ah well, will just look forward to a proper Indian in a few weeks in the good old north west of England ;)

I had this conversation with Ursula last night and she said to go to the website like I said. If you're moving back anyway I've no idea why you've even expressed an interest in it!

We're still going to be here for a few months yet - we have to buy, wait for the completion and then we have to arrange flights for us and dogs. That's not going to happen overnight

We're off house hunting a few weeks - not leaving Cyprus....

You will have to try the curry place in Knott End when you are over. We are looking forward to going there again in a couple of weeks when we go back.

We spotted the restaurant when we were there last time but we're rarely still in Knott End in the evenings. Although my parents live there we always feel somewhat stifled by the place. It's nice enough but it's one of those places where if you want to go out in the evening you really have to have a car. The bus route from near the Bourne Arms into Blackpool takes an hour which we find quite tedious - maybe in the summer when we're back!

Reading some of the comments, it sounds like the Cumin Restaurant has had a big switch around of staff (but not the menu) and people now seem pleased with it.

When we're in Blackpool we tend to nip to the Al Amir on Talbot Road but there is another place on Dickson Road (sort of diagonal to Funny Girls) which is always packed so we've never had the chance to try it.

Sounds like you will be there at the same time as us!

Sorry but they do - many of my friends have already used it and been to the restaurant having viewed the menu that way - perhaps Urzula misunderstood?!

There is no live website.... (maybe it's down for a revamp) but if you can find it, I would be very happy for you to send me the link (you can PM me).

We're still going to be in Cyprus until at least April so we have plenty of time to make that trip to Paphos.

We will have to do it soon enough as I have a voucher to use at either the Almyra or the Annabelle for 1 night for 2 people in a seaview room courtesy of my workplace (staff Christmas present) :D

OK I can't find it now either but I have seen it and Urzula showed me it the other evening I'm sure!

If you're so keen to see the menu online rather than taking a walk past the place then go onto the Fb page and click on View Menu option and it will open as a pdf - works perfectly and I have it open now in another window!

It's a pdf file..... not even sure it will attach here and it's more than 1 page.

I'm keeping this one all to myself ;)

We went last night and thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

I can honestly say The Curry House provided us with the best Indian meals we've ever eaten in a restaurant in Cyprus during our 12yrs of living permanently in Cyrus.

Very sad that we've only had the opportunity of our first taste just a few weeks before we are due to depart the island for good.

We had Chicken Jalfrezi but asked for the heat to be increased from medium to hot and Chicken Vindaloo. Both dishes were "hot" not only in the curry "heat chart" department but the dishes were steaming when they reached the table and stayed hot until the end, which is a positive first for meals in Cyprus.

We enjoyed the included starters of poppadoms and dips plus ordered plain boiled rice (cooked to perfection) and a delicious garlic nan bread too.

We may well have to make a repeat visit before we leave Cyprus for our new life in the UK.

Went there for the first time on Wednesday evening. Even though it was midweek, early, and not busy we were left on our own with no menu or drinks. While we sat a waiter dropped the contents of a plate from the table behind us, splattering remains of curry across the floor towards my wife, and skidding cutlery towards her. Not grumbling about the incident, accidents happen, but my gripe was that we were not asked if we had been hit by the flying curry or cutlery, and despite twice asking for the food to be cleared, as it was dangerous and unsightly, it was not. It was eventually trampled away by staff and customers.
The food itself when it arrived was good - tasty, spicy and plentiful and the Owner/Manager was friendly and attentive.
One remaining gripe was that no Indian beer was available (unusual to say the least). Also small bottles of Carlsberg were not available, or local spirits although both appear on the menu. Not good for drivers that Carlsberg is only available in 650ml bottles.
Only minor niggles I know, and I would consider returning, although I feel Koh i Noor (our usual) gives a more complete service.

Just to let you know..... we went last Saturday evening for the first time when our friend was over to visit us from Jersey.

There is an immense menu and not the easiest to navigate but what we had was delicious, tasty and at the correct heat we all expected. Not the cheapest place we've been to by any means (we paid £66 for the 3 of us) but we did have 2 starters plus 2 poppadums and dips, 3 curries with individual rice (lots of different rices to choose from) and 2 spirits with a mixer and 3 pints of Indian beer (Cobra and Kingfisher). That's a little more than me and hubby would normally have if it was just ourselves so the price probably wasn't that bad....

At the end, we got talking to the very young restaurant manager (a family business) who travels from and back to Manchester every day.

I think we will definitely be going again and sampling their Takeaway menu too!

So pleased it was as good as we were anticipating and that after finding a great tasting curry at The Curry House in Paphos, we weren't let down in our new village at the UK end :)
