Mag 250 box help!!

Postby Wee Stumpy » 22 Oct 2016 11:39

We have a Mag 250 box and pay an annual subscription for tv. This lastw eek we have experienced really annoying problems which only seem to be in the evening and it is when we go to change channel - we get a time shift message and logo on the screen and it just goes silly and can take us 5 minutes or so just to change channel.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so is it the remote, the mag 250 box or something else??
Any help much appreciated!

Shelagh, have you also recycled your Cyta box (or whoever you use) in addition to recycling your Mag box?

Since we moved to our new service provider a couple of months ago we haven't had any viewing issues whatsoever. But when we were with NTV we had to periodically recycle both the Mag and the Cyta box. Ie, turn it off, pause and then turn it back on.

Well would you believe it has not done it this evening!! Lloyd thanks for your advice too. We always turn our Cyta Router off every night but not our Mag Box so will definitely do that tonight

Actually, you don't need to leave it off for 5 mins. Just 2 seconds does the trick.

BMwX no hassle who you kidding? not me had one and no thanks, the Mag units just need a reset at times but no need to download kodies etc, and you know what they say about free stuff, it is for a reason, certainly what I found.

We all should switch off our Mags saves bandwidth for all..no need to turn off your router though.

Agree entirely Jim having recently changed to Mag 254. Tried various android boxes since the demise of satellite and hated them all. KODI is too reliant on p2p movies and film on all of which give dodgy picture quality at best.....and soooo clunky. As you say, free for a reason. I can at last enjoy my full hdtv as it was intended. All the TV you can eat including several HD channels for a paltry 25 euros a month....and let's not forget, no tv licence to fork out for.

Re the switching off of modems and IPTV boxes, leave the modems on 24/7 as they are your gateway to out of hours updates on your whole network. Just to clarify, although I also agree with your point re the magbox, but some people might read that as switching off at the wall whereas switching to standby on the remote is sufficient.

I would agree, especially on HD. Do android boxes have HD channels.

Just commented to the wife the other night; when we used to subscribe to NTV, we had to re-set the Mag box at least once a week or fortnight. Same with the CYTA box. Since switching to Sensible Satellites we haven't done a re-set of either for months. And the picture quality is SUPERB; the HD channels really are like HD. Can wholly recommend Sensible Satellites.

I have been subscribing with Mag 254 via Computer SOS for a year now and really don't understand what you are saying about 're-setting'. Whatever that means I have not had to do it once. I get a perfect picture even on HD channels and cannot recommend SOS Computers highly enough and get a file of over 5,000 films built into the system.

Yes they do have HD and some of the more upmarket devices will also do 4K.

This will not be your IPTV provider (normally) or your Mag unit, downtime is usually related to your Internet server, especially if you are a heavy internet user like myself who has two Mags and several PC's sometimes all on the go!!, if you live in relatively quiet area this also is of help.

It is as well you know just how to reset your system (Mag) as at some point for sure you will need to do this, simple enough just power down your Mag remove cable or switch off the power, then power up and wait while it reloads. By the way I use in one of my systems the same IPTV provider, and yes it does need the odd reset,
