Cyta now thinking of changing to Primetel

Postby Kissos » 16 Nov 2012 14:46

Hi All

We have been with Cyta for nearly 7 years and live in Kissonerga.
We are looking at changing to Primetel.

We run a business so its important that its is reliable in particular for the internet as we use this
seven days a week, up to around 12 hours a day.
We haven't had any problems with Cyta in the seven years and have always used Netway in addition to Cyta which is now under Primetel.
But we are finding it expensive for the internet speed we have.
We only use about 5 euros a month in phone calls as we use the mobiles, but its costing
us around 1100 euros a year in total. We are also looking at the TV package too as we are interested in Sky News as
we only have Nilesat and BBC Entertainment at the moment.

Would be really grateful for any advice.
Many thanks
Karen

Hi Karen

Like you - my pc is on from 7am until around midnight 7 days a week. Plus we run a laptop at the same time on WiFi and often have either my mobile on the wifi and/or a mini laptop.

I run 2 websites from home and am constantly on the pc sending emails and networking. When I am at work, my husband is at home on the laptop. But the main pc is always on.

We switched from Cyta to Primetel 12 months ago specifically because we got rid of our Nile Sat package and could take an extra 2mbs speed and TV for less than we were paying already. We've had only 1 problem which was related to the TV connection and did not affect our broadband. They were very quick to come and see what the problem was and when it didn't fix immediately the engineer kept in contact with us throughout the day, even coming back later to check it all out...

We pay our bills online when we get the email notification. We weren't forced to pay by direct debit as I have seen mentioned on previous forum posts. I should say that I'm based in Limassol so perhaps they work differently in each office? Worth mentioning though if they suggest or try to enforce it...

Unfortunately here in Paphos district because Primetel don't have their own lines and have to use the CYTA lines they cannot supply their cable TV system.

Other than that, my advice is go for it - you will save money.

Just be aware that you will have to pay Primetel the same sort of deposit you had to pay CYTA but once the transfer is complete you can get your CYTA deposit back.

I should also have said that as we had been here for 7 years we were not required to pay a deposit to Primetel. We rent our property. We also received our deposit back from Cyta when we took our set top box back to their office.

Cyta do allow you to operate without a landline these days, and of course they are upgrading their service so in most cases inter net speed is doubling with no price increase.
I know plenty of people who moved to Primetel at this end of the island. The opinion is very much split over wether or not it was worth it.
Best to go and have a chat with their sales and they will check on the useage of each element of any services you have with them and maybe suggest an alternative.

Hi.
Having just checked with CYTA, and yes you can cancel the landline BUT not completely. They reduce the cost by around 3.50 euro's!! They say you still need the connection for the internet, so it's hardly worth it. Just a shame we can't get the internet package from Primetel in Tsada at the moment (unless anybody knows differently).

Maybe that cost is included in the Primetel package cost then? I know that I do not pay any bills directly to Cyta anymore.
