Could anyone please advise on private CT scanning units, approx cost for a scan to the lower back, and location of a unit near to Paphos?

thanks in anticipation

There is a special Diagnostic Centre up a road just before the motorway roundabout if coming from Viofos, alot of the private clinics use it.
Maybe if you Googled Paphos Diagnostic Centre it'd come up. no idea of cost though sorry.

Thanks Pickles, I think they only do MRI's, I specifically need a CT scan. Will try them anyway, as maybe they do both, but not shown on their web site as such. I have since emailed St Georges for a quote, but just wondered if any forumers had any idea to costs.

Bluey I think my Mum had a CT there, they have the most modern up to date equipment and as I said the private clinics use it!

Pickles is correct and it is the most up to date scanner in Paphos, I had a CT scan on my knee there about six months ago and itwas about 320 Euro's if I remember correctly.

Thanks guys for the info

I have heard from Iasis, there CT scanning equipment is being updated, so cannot help, St Georges haven't replied, and a PM wasn't too positive here.

Could you please confirm you mean these links below Jim? located at Antoni Lambrou Street, 8026 Anavargos.

http://www.paphoslab.com/contact.html

I have put CT in the search boxes, but nothing came up. And there certainly is no mention in their equipment link.

I will email them to enquire and get back to you.

Thanks again for all the help.

The first link is for a different business with a similar name - Stefan is great for analysis etc bit not for scans!
The second link is the place I was talking about.

Pickles is correct.

I'm not certain where you live but if you were coming down from the General Hospital towards the motorway going across the new roundabout with the coloured fountain continuing towards the motorway, turn first left after the island and then first right and it is along the road on the right.

Hope this helps

Thanks Jim

Directions are very helpful.

I have emailed them, just seems strange they make no mention on their web site of CT (Computed Tomography) scanning, or costs thereof, except to differentiate with MRI.

will let you know how I get on.

Hi Guys

I tried Pahos Diagnostics for a CT scan, they only do MRI's, no CT scanner. They recommended St Georges Hospital. St Georges will do lower back CT scan for 280 euros, but are on holiday until 20th August. I have had an MRI scan recently, but need a CT scan, as the CT scan apparently highlights bone damage more successfully.

Thanks for all your help

I found phoning them gains a better response, neither replied to my email contact..

I think the OP needed it done quickly and the waiting list at the General for non emergencys can be very long, my dear Mum died before she could use her appointment (which was made in April for October) but luckily she went to a private clinic in the meantime!

Private CT required hmck, I am registered under the Spanish S1 system, just house sitting for daughter in Cyprus, I had 7 titanium screws and two rods fitted in 2005 to lower back, but constant pain since, I had an MRI scan in Abu Dhabi in January, that showed up at least one screw misplaced, into the spine. (could not have moved in their opinion) My UK surgeon (that carried out the op) suggests I get a CT scan to highlight any bone issues, with the possibility of him removing titanium rods/screws. A pity he didn't tell me there were screws misplaced 7 years ago, would have saved me a lot of hassle.

cheers anyway

HI,
Before you have the CT Scan please ensure that they know you have so many metal implants. The reason I say this is because normally Orthopeadic surgeons do not use CT scan after operations - since metal implants normally render the CT scan inadequate ( causes streaking) for bone visualisation.

In which case you may be wasting your money.

Thanks xhristina

I did add the information in the emails I sent, however as my orthopeadic surgeon advised the need for a CT scan, and I also found this statement on the net:

Implants and screws fabricated from titanium exhibit excellent compatibility with MRI and CT scanning. Scatter is minimal, and because titanium is non-ferrous, localized heating during MR is negligible.

I will elaborate when making an appointment, and as you suggest, could save money if Cyprus CT equipment is not up to it.

Thanks for your input, I have also queried it by email to be doubly safe with a radiologist friend who carried out my MRI in Abu Dhabi.

And will post the outcome
