C.O.P.D Anybody suffering ?

Postby DILYON » 07 Jun 2010 22:01

Does anyone else suffer from this lung problem; the pollen isn't helping is it.?
I have tried prescriptions for several inhaler types. Some have side effects. Some "work" better than others.

Morning Dil maybe drop this question into the health section I am sure Teresa will advise on this, I was talking to a Cypriot school teacher recently and he said dust in the air is a serious problem in the Pafos area.

Dilyon, kev suffers from no chest ailments but there has been so much dust in the air that it has left him a little breathless and some days feeling like crap. Dont know what to suggest other than wear a mouth and nose mask so that you dont inhale it.

Dil, I have asthma, and have found this year particularly bad. Dr Nikos at the General told me the pollen levels are extremely high this year, and I was on a nebuliser four times a day for three weeks! Doing OK now, but on inhalers as a preventative. Can only suggest what kevnles said, maybe wear a mask when outside. . .

Air pollution

Postby cymart1 » 08 Jun 2010 14:55

Unfortunately it has been statistically proven that Paphos suffers badly from dust pollution in the atmosphere which originates from local sources such as traffic in the urban area, building sites and the wind blowing it from open ground etc. There is also 'imported' dust from abroad carried by the weather and often from north africa and other countries-this had badly affected the whole of Cyprus this year on far more days than ever recorded previously and as it is a result of climate change there is little that can be done about it,other than trying to alleviate its symptoms by staying indoors when it is very bad.We are also very unfortunate that Paphos frequently has the highest humidity levels of all the coastal towns making it often uncomfortable anyway in summer without the added dust phenomena, although this can often be alleviated by living higher up at altitudes from Mesoyi and above.Perhaps in convenient but the only way to avoid it.....

I really feel sorry for sufferers of pollution and other air borne irritants. It can make your life a complete misery.

Cyprus does not fair well at all with dust pollution and its figures do not stand up to European requirements. They say they are doing something about it but....

One option is an air purifier - if you can afford one. This is an account of one in the Cyprus Mail.

You would certainly benefit from having one but I don't know the cost of them and I don't expect they will be cheap.

Other than that the only way to cope is to take all prescribed medication, don't over exert yourself and make breathing even more difficult and try to stay indoors at the worst times. Not living the life though is it?
best wishes - Teresa

Hi,

Even in the UK we (asthma and COPD) sufferers are finding it hard to breathe at the moment, ask your Dr to subscribe Symbicort 220/6 Turbohaler it helps me a lot; side affects are a husky voice.
