Eye floaters..

Postby Admin » 03 Aug 2013 06:47

Recently my right eye has and still have eye floaters, some like small cobwebs and others just tiny black spots, any thoughts what these can be and any treatment if there is one..Do I need to see an Eye Doctor, if there is one on the island?

thanks. Jim

YES. See a doctor as soon as you can.

My wife recently had these and has been informed that she has "Posterior Vitreous Detachment". It is untreatable but is also suffered by about 70% of people over 65 and the floaters are eventually just ignored by the brain.

However, it may be detachment of the retina. This can be treated but the earlier the better hence seeing the doctor asap.

Agree with last posting. I've had them for years and, given time, they do SEEM to go away even though they are still there. Bit like mild tinnitus, still there but you tend not to hear it - sometimes.

Thank you both, appreciate the info...

I took a look on the Internet for reasons and cures, as you say no cure but I do suspect a detachment of the retina as being diabetic this is not unusual, also have a few bright black floaters but also the cobweb kind, also noticed hundreds of much smaller deposits, a little unnerving, I will go to see an Eye doctor as soon as I know where to go, the General does not have one I've been told, Nicosia, but do not fancy the drive to be honest.

I think you should be wary of any driving.

In the UK you must inform DVLA about any medical condition which might affect
your ability to drive.

There is an Ophthalmic Surgeon at Blue Cross Medical Centre. Mr Tassos Georgiou 26221111.
He has his main clinic in Nicosia but holds consultations at the Blue Cross on Thursday mornings.
My consultations were free of charge, but I don't know if this is across the board. Ask his receptionist if and when you make an appointment.

Pat thank you, but my optician told me who he was but only for the one consultation, he gets very expensive he said..but if no one else has any ideas I will have to go and see him.

thank you..

Brian this is not the UK. Reading the internet it says many many thousands of people have this irritating problem, for me brought on I think by my diabetes, does not effect my driving but I will be advised by my doctor. thanks all..

Had a full eye examination by the eye specialist in the Iasis private hospital, could not wait until Thursday (thanks) no detachment as I first thought, have to live with these floaters, irritating but could be worse for sure.

Thanks again all.

I am glad that your diagnosis is not as serious as you at first thought Jim.
I too have floaters and I suppose it is something that we have to accept as we get older. As mentioned I think to a certain extent the brain eventually gets to ignore most of them.

Cheers, Trev..
