No pills

Postby altosax1 » 20 Sep 2014 07:11

This is the second time we have been to the Paphos General Hospital for prescription renewal where 1 item on our prescription list has been unavailable. This is now 4 months without this medicine.
We are OAPs and we qualify for free health care. The item that is unavailable can be bought from any chemist, and although not overly expensive, still cuts into our small pensions. We have had to purchase for both of us.
I was wondering if other readers have had experience of this, and a possible course of action. We will call in to see Dr. Nicos for possible clarification. He gave us a roll over type of prescription renewal.
I would say there are no problems with the other items on our prescription lists.

Yes this does happen from time to time. The Pharmacist will usually tell you when the drugs are likely to be back in stock, and give you their phone number to check before you travel.

Most times I ask them to phone Polis hospital to see if the drugs are in stock there. If they are I go and get them. But I am at Polemi which is in the middle of the two places.

Do you have any of those "village clinics" in Paphos, I wonder? It may be the smaller clinics may have your tablets in stock. That of course depends on what they are...

I know there's often a problem with diabetic medication as my colleagues' husband has had terrible trouble getting all his tablets. So much so, they paid to visit a private specialist to get him onto injections instead of tablets. They then had to go to the General hospital to see the consultant there to get their prescriptions authorised but can now collect the injections from their local village clinic.

Although we're not too far from Limassol general hospital we tend to use the village clinics in either Erimi or Episkopi because they're not as busy and you don't have to go so early. The clinic takes place every other Wednesday where we live.

My husband usually goes to collect my repeat prescriptions whilst I'm at work and turns up at around 10:00 and is back home by 11:30 at the latest and that's after going to collect the prescription at the General hospital pharmacy. I have HRT tablets which are not carried at the village clinics but the pharmacist on the last visit promised she would get some in stock for our next visit, which is due next week.

Thanks for your quick replies! One question. Can we take our prescription booklets for use at the Polis hospital? I thought that our books were only good for the Paphos General Hos. We're not too far away from Polis.
Again thanks………..Nick
