Compared of the costs of moving here, the extra cost to buy a Mag Box here is negligible.
I would get one when you arrive so at least if you have any problems you can check with the shop you bought it at.

faros,

Good advise from Trev, once here and with a half decent broadband download speed (4mbps +) it will be a breeze to set up. You sign up to any of the IPTV providers, I am with NTV.MX but there are several more; a lot are with SOS Computers which is local and come very highly recommended by many on here, I also believe that they are a little cheaper than my provider.

MAG 250

Postby Steve Hunter » 01 Dec 2015 18:03

Hi all. Quick question. If I buy a Mag 250 or a 254 in the UK will it work here and is it easy to set up? I can get a 254 and keyboard remote for 60 pounds in London new. Which subscription companies are available and how much? I don't want to loose my discovery channels etc. Is the picture better than on an android box?

If you can buy in London for that price buy it!! Keyboard will not be necessary.Re: what you will get, ask the people you will subscribe with first.admin

If you wish to keep your Discovery channels then (like us) you will need to subscribe to the Premiun subscription on NTV: http://www.ntv.mx/?c=2&a=0&p=6# which is €29.95 per month or cheaper for 6 months up-front, which we do. I believe you get 6 months for the price of 5.

How to set up your Mag box is here: http://www.ntv.mx/?c=2&a=0&p=53

Can't speak for the Android box, but picture quality is excellent with the Mag 250, particularly on the HQ channels, which are approaching HD.

Or go with uktvfrance , 14.99€ a month . I don't know how many discovery channels there are out there , but for this price you get three of them .

Yes of course it will operate here and there are several IPTV agents, mine is local and we get everything plus a lot more, We pay about 25 € a month. A bargain we feel. Picture quality is amazing even on a large screen TV...

Steve, I can see that like us, the Discovery channels are important to you. I just turned on our TV to see what is available within this genre with NTV:

Animal Planet GB
Crime and Investigation
Discovery Channel
Discovery History
Discovery Home & Health
Discovery Science
Discovery Turbo
H2
History
Nat Geo Channel
Nat Geo Wild
Quest

More than is stated on NTV's website. Our son, who until recently used to be a regional sales manager with Sky, was most impressed with NTV's offering when he was out with us a few weeks ago.

Steve,

I believe you have the reassurance you need re getting a MAG 254 but you do not need a keyboard remote as well. You simply setup an account with an IPTV provider, any number out there as has been said, and send them the MAC address of the MAG (on the bottom).

The mag250/254 has an onscreen keyboard , but it is very rare you need to use it .
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Not wanting to open yet another Mag box thread, I have a question...

Does the box have an auto switch off after 4 hrs. If we put ours on say BBC1 at 8am and do not change channels, it reverts to the home page around 12 noon
Is this normal or is there a setting which can be altered.

Trev..

This is not normal Trev.....Jim.

Trev,

Invariably ours is on from midday to around 10pm (MAG250) and it does not switch off. Personally I can see no useful purpose to have an 'auto switch off' after 4 hours or any amount of hours come to that. I doubt if the MAG uses much juice anyway, certainly not enough to warrant switching off after 4 hours.

Trev , What service are you with ? With one of the many services I have tried they used to do this , turn off the stream to save on load on the server to people who leave their box switched on . I can not remember which service it was .

But it is something worth asking your service provider .

Hi Sinbad, we are with the one from SOS. I will ring Brian tomorrow and see if he knows the answer.

Thanks for the reply.

If anyone is not using your mag then it would be a massive help if they turn the stream off, as if we all did this it would certainly lighten the load on the bandwidth on the network, this can have a major impact on everyone

I found out that ours is programmed to go off after 4 hrs of non activity. We turn it off in any case when we are not watching the TV
