UK Banks Questioning address & Signature

Postby clive of payia » 05 Apr 2014 09:21

I am with Barclays, have been for over 50 years. Now getting communications from them questioning my address here in Cyprus, it hasn't changed since I original informed them 12 years ago. Having sent them the heading from my Boc account and a full copy of my electricity bill, both showing my address, they have now questioning my signature. I have sent them a copy of my passport with my signature clearly on it.

Anybody else getting this? Is this the start of their campaign to close our healthy UK accounts down? As a shareholder of Barclays I have written to the CEO saying that if they close account of UK citizens now living overseas, the reaction from friends and family will knock the share price down - that should get his attention.

First contact was by email - didn't think banks contacted customers by email - and I queried it with Barclays security thinking it was another scam - turned out to be genuine.

All very weird, I can't see what the point of closing accounts of overseas customers will gain.

I take it they haven't come back with any answers for you as yet then...

No they haven't responded yet - guess they are trying to think of another wheeze. I think they have got hold of some wrong information and are checking me out. When it is resolved I will write to Barclays Complaints Dept. and ask for a written explanation and apology.

I would, most definitely.... particularly as they contacted you by email first off. That's a definite no, no in this day and age of scammers.
