Advice GBP and Euros

Postby sanbet1 » 13 Mar 2013 17:51

Hi, I have recently indicated my interest in a rental property in Polis. The landlord (based in England) is asking for rental to be paid in Euros. I am presently in Scotland. How do I do this if I am here in Uk and not on the ground in Cyprus to open an account. Is there a reason why someone would wish to be paid in Euros?

The main reason why someone would wish to be paid in euro is because they live in the euro zone and don't want their monthly income to be affected by currency fluctuations, they set the rate in euro, so they have security of income in their denominated currency.

If they live most of the time in the UK, they should be amenable to you agreeing to you paying a sterling monthly rent into their UK bank account. You would have to agree the sterling rental figure with them. They still might refuse because they want to avoid UK tax (if they are not Cypriot resident for tax purposes).

Just ask.. to save money can I pay you sterling into your UK bank account? You have nothing to lose.

Keving, now I understand. He is based in UK. I have now sent him an email with the request for GBP. Huge thanks. S.

Could I ask a further question re Currency Fair. As rental payments are monthly do they use a "standing order" system or would I have to initiate the payment each month? I've had a look at their website and it seem to be what I'm looking for if Euros are preferred.

Apologies if the answer to this query is on their website - maybe I missed it.

Don't think they do 'standing orders', but maybe you will have to RTFM! ;) ;)

JB - Your post is completely unnecessary and not appreciated.

For anyone who may be interested, I contacted Currency Fair today and they do indeed organise standing orders.
