Insurance For Car Hire

Postby Maramike » 14 Jun 2015 15:52

A while back there was a recommendation for insurance to cover the excess on car hire. One company mentioned was insurance4carhire.com
I am in the process in organising a UK trip, and booking car hire. The extra premium to cover excess through the hire company seems even higher this year so I have been looking at the site above.
The premium of £39.99 seems reasonable, but one point does stick out. The basic insurance from the car hire companies does not cover theft of the vehicle. This is included with insurance4carhire.com - but only up to £4,000. If the vehicle is worth say £12,000 then there is a problem! I do not anticipate having the hire car stolen, but as with all insurance the object is to protect against unexpected, but possible, risks.
The other concern I have is the possible reaction from the car hire companies to this sort of cover, either in the booking stage or in the event of a claim.
Has anyone experienced this company or similar and able to comment on these concerns?

I have World wide cover with this company, rented in the UK/Europe/USA and not had a problem with the rental company's, unfortunately, I will find out how good they are, only if I ever have to make a claim......going just on reviews they seem to be kosher.

I can recommend this company and the car hire insurance - I was unlucky enough to have to make a claim and despite the fact that I had dropped the car off at Gatwick at 5am so had to organise with the hire company to provide me the damage report etc via email, I received every penny back in to my bank account within about 5 weeks.

i have been using this company for a long time too and they're very helpful and very honest! Luckily I've never had to make a claim but last year I somehow managed to insure myself twice ( ) for the same period - not a problem to them as they just credited me another years cover!!

I am unaware of what the EU insurance companies provide, but in the US, my auto insurance has full coverage less our deductible for any car rental, and we are covered also by our credit card company for any excess not covered by our insurance.
It might pay to ring the agent and check your policy..
