Sounds a bit like a Faji with beans instead of lentils. Google Faji and see what comes up - basically a make it up as you go along stew type thing using whatever's around!

sounds like fasoulakia/fasolakia to me, we often have it with chicken pieces.

φακές (said fah-kes or warped into fah-gi στη Κύπρο !) is the greek for lentils ... would be gutted to order that and get green beans instead :)

Fasolakia Freska
500 g fresh beans topped and tailed (bobby beans, dwarf beans or french beans)
1 large onion
2 med potatoes
2 cloves garlic finely sliced
150 ml olive oil
400g tinned tomatoes chopped
salt and black pepper

slice beans in half, saute onions and garlic in hot oil until pale golden, add beans and pots and coat well in oil. Add toms and season cover and cook for 30 - 40 mins stirring from time to time. Add a little hot water if needed. Serve hot or at room temperature.

et voila !!
Nice with some fetta cheese and black olives
Enjoy
