My hibiscus have a bug on them. A parasite that surrounds itself in a fluffy white "cotton wool". In the UK I think it's called woolly aphid and very tricky to kill. Does anybody know what I can treat them with please. I've already tried several insecticides and washing-up liquid to no great effect. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks Dave

I have exactly the same problem and would like to know the answer as well. Apart from cutting off all the affected shoots how does one get rid of it.

Wash it off with a hose pipe. Cut off what you can and destroy. Spray with Durbisan insecticde, leave a week wash off again. Leave a few days and repeat.
It helps but if your neighbours all have it it will come back. Best you can do. Washing up and vinegar mix is the other option

Many thanks for your suggestion Fiona. I managed to buy some Durbisan from a shop in Chlorakas (painted orange) but the lady also advised using a diluted amout of Confidor (about 0.5 ltr per shrub) around the roots as well. So have applied, now awaiting the results.
