Automatic Gearbox Playing Up

Postby Firefly » 28 Apr 2016 16:24

I don't know if anyone can answer my question, but today I started my automatic and put it in drive, and it wouldn't move, I did drive it ok with the manual gears, and later found that it would go into drive ok. Having just moved to another county, I don't know any mechanics. Any thoughts please.

Thanks

Jackie

Hi Jim

It's a Chevrolet Lacetti 1.8.

I hope it is the weather, and not a new gear box :ympray:

As Jim has said could be that the gearbox fluid/oil has not been changed on a regular basis.
Finicky things if not serviced correctly.

Hi

My car has been serviced regularly at a reputable garage, but who knows ? Maybe it is the switch, it sounds as though this could be a common fault with the Lacetti.

Today she ran as sweet as a nut  Obviously if I have the same problem again, it will have to go in to be checked. Thank you for your thoughts.

As alluded to above it is very important that the correct gear box oil is used and it is set to the correct level.....no good checking on a slope!

Kazanddave

You were quite right, car started to play up again, new rotary switch fitted, what a difference. Thanks for your input.
