cataracts

Postby DILYON » 11 Nov 2015 11:04

Is there a private surgeon in Cyprus dealing with the removal of cataracts?
Anyone had experience of this and a rough cost. I am not too happy about the General Hospitals here with respects to eye problems.

One of our past customers, Theo Potamitis, is probably one of the best eye surgeons in Cyprus. He has a clinic in Limassol. Just been on their website and very impressive it looks too. His wife is English, so no issues over language. Check out: http://www.pantheo.com/doctors.php

My wife and I were both "done" by a guy in Larnaca, extremely competent. 4 years later, no probs. driving without glasses, just need reading glasses, Dr Constantinou 24628887. Am no longer sure of the price but I have €1500/eye in mind: may be more now, of course.

My wife had her Cataract by the surgeon working with Maria the eye specialist at the Iasis.

The cost was €1,600... but this included the 3 or 4 follow up visits as well.

I too would not use the General for any of my eye problems.

Hi Dr Theodoros Potamitis from the Pantheo Eye Centre in Limassol highly recommended. He was recommended to me as being the best eye surgeon in Cyprus. Had both eyes done and extremely happy with end results. When had cataracts done which was over a year ago cost 1900 euro per eye and well worth the price paid. Have subsequently recommended to another person who was very pleased.

Hi,
Had one eye done by Dr Maria at the Iasis 3 weeks ago. Will have the other done shortly.
Very happy with the op and the after care and would recommend.

Does this operation to remove a Cataract require a stay in hospital?

Thanks

No Jim, it is a 20 minute op, walk in walk out. Eye bandage overnight then eye drops for a couple of weeks. Local anaesthetic in eye by drops, 100 times more pleasent than going to the dentist for a check.

Hi When had mine done at the Pantheo Eye Centre in Limassol did not even have to come home with eye bandage. Operation then stayed for couple hours, check by doctor then released home. Eye drops then return visit for check about two weeks later. Two further checks at about six months interval which was included in initial cost. Will only do one eye at a time with about a month between if both eyes need operation.

BillAnarita recommended us to Dr Theodoros Potamitis for Rosemary's eyes. She has had both eyes done, fitted with bifocal lenses so she now no longer needs glasses for reading. Extremely pleased with the results, He uses the best quality Zeis lenses. His English is excellent and he has a lovely manner.

I started eye drops in my right eye to treat glaucoma just over 2 months ago. Last week went back to see if treatment was working before using drops in the left eye. I mentioned that I though my cataract was progressing as I could see what looked like hairs blurring my vision in the right eye. Consultant said it is hairs!, the drops make your lashes grow. Sure enough on close inspection in the mirror, my right eyelashes are now dark, long & curly! Many a girl would be jealous :))

To Trev and MofArodes

Can either of you two kind gentleman give me the contact details of Dr Maria at the Iasis please as I am having trouble with cataracts. I have searched the hospital but cannot find any reference to her or the Eye Department. Have sent an email request but would be grateful for any information either of you have. Thank you so much

Hi Rita.
If you go down to the Iasis hospital and ask at reception if she is in, and which is her door, you just sit on the chairs and wait.. If she has someone in with her she will see you when she opens the door to let them out..
There is usually not long to wait, an average of 20 to 30 minutes.

Her mobile is 99647354

Good Luck. Trev..

Dr Tassos Georgios has a clinic at the Blue Cross hospital. My wife had her eyes lazered with him some 8 years ago, but that was when he only did ops in Nicosia. He then opened a full surgery in Paphos.
His eye test used to be €50 but that would be knocked off the price if you had the surgery.

Hello Trev

Thank you very much for your very prompt reply and the information. I have to go to the hospital on another matter so will do as you instruct at the same time. Thank you again.

Kazanddave- thank you also for the information you kindly passed to me - I am endeavouring to find the best I can as I am an abject coward so far as doctors, hospitals and dentists are concerned and, of course, eyesight is very precious.

Hi Rita

Doctor Maria did my eye test for work; she's a lovely lady.

Our youngest daughter who is twenty has cataracts; of course we wanted her treated right away but were told they were not getting any worse so to just keep having them monitored.

Hello Jim

Thank you for the confidence advice. My c ataracts are I believe now quite advanced. When I had my eyes tested a year ago the optician said I should have another test within the year as the cataracts were now advanced and I know this to be so now because I seem to get blurs across my eyes (particularly with close work) and if driving at night get quite dazzled from oncoming
drivers (particularly those who will insist on putting their headlights on main beam even when there are lights overhead!!!) I think the time has come to bite the bullet and confront my irrational fears to see what can be done, Thank you again.
