Advise please medical for over 70's driving licence

Postby dynamo12345 » 25 Jan 2013 16:01

I have a Cypriot driving licence and will be 70 shortly. Can anyone recommend a GP who will "process" the medical form?

Cheers

That would be my recommendation as well. Just a small fee to pay.

Anyone know if they are willing to do this at Paphos General? Specifically Dr. Nicos....

When I went to get the medical form completed at the General, I had to see the eye clinic first for an eye test. I then had to go upstairs and see a particular GP who dealt with the license medical forms.

I think it's easier to see a doctor privately as a friend recently spent several hours seeing an eye specialist then another doctor at the General before he got a signature. It all comes down to which you prefer-- spend a small amount & get a signature quickly or spend a few hours at the General. :-\

Don't know what you regard as a 'small fortune', but I would be surprised if Dr Mala charges more than €30 or €40. You could always ring her first to find out. 8) I know where I would prefer to go.

MOH paid €35 for his Medical Letter for his Cypriot Licence when he was 70 last November. The GP (Dr dora at Blue Cross Medical Centre) gave him a thorough check up. He wears spectacles, but no eye test needed.

There is no Eye Test required at 70, as previously stated but you need one at 73 when renewing your 3 year licence. I you have to go to the DOT to change a UK licence then you have to read the guy's number plate.

MOH did not have to read a number plate when he exchanged his UK driving licence for a Cypriot driving licence at the DOT when he reached the age of 70 last November.

All the different posts just go to show how different the experience can be, dependant perhaps upon who you see on the day.

I changed from a UK license to a Cypriot one at 69. I had to read a number plate.

I changed from a under 70 Cypriot license to an over 70 Cypriot license and had to have an eye test and the form signed by a GP.

Hi all.

Mission accomplished!!

I thought it might be helpful to set out my experience of obtaining an over 70's Driving licence using the Cypriot driving licence. (Which differs from the postings of UK licence to Cyprus over 70's licence)

Remember however, this is Cyprus so this procedure may be different next time!

1. I went to the Citizens advice centre on "Butcher Boy" road. They gave me a medical form (in Greek) to be completed by the GP.
2. Based on the above advice saw Dr Mala (lovely, lovely lady) who took my blood pressure, blood sugar levels and used a gadget to detect stroke potential against veins in neck. AOK. She completed and signed the form.
3. Took the signed medical form, two passport photo's and original Cypriot driving licence back to the citizens advice centre who on the spot provided a new "pink" driving licence (still a scrap of paper like card with the photo stapled in) which is valid for three years.

Easy Peasy and thanks for the advice.

Regards

Geoff
