Powerline Adapters

Postby hutch642 » 07 Mar 2015 12:37

i am coming over in a few weeks for 10 days and need some advice. I have internet over there with Holitec. The problem is the signal struggles upstairs and sometimes disappears completely. I am thinking about bringing over some powerline adapters. Can someone please advise me if these should work over there or is there likely to be problems due to the wiring over there or the way the Holitec system works. Thanks

Many people seem to use them over here with success. If you have 3 phase electricity and upstairs is on a different phase they may not work
But I believe that there are plugs on the market that even get over that problem

Thanks for your reply Trev To be honest I haven't got a clue what sort or how many phases our system has. They're about £30 so I may just have to risk it

How many wires come into your property from the leccy pole? I assume they are overhead and not underground.
2 = 1 (single) phase.
4 = 3 phase.

Failing that look at your electricity meter, it should say whether 1 (single) or 3-phase at the bottom of the dial behind
the protective glass front.
Could well be a problem if 3-phase.

Thanks for your replies. I'm not coming over until the 25th so can't check the wires or meter. I've got the last bill but can't seem to see anything on there to give me a clue

The information on the bill is 3 lines down from the Account Number on the left.

Mine is 3 phase and says ' 30 amp. 3-ph ' (3 phase)

Mine says:-

Load Entitlement 40 AMP 1-Ph

which obviously means single phase

That's weird because under the account number is tariffs, the next line is meters/numbers. Then there is a gap and the next line is VAT tax point. On one part of the bill it says Cycle 27 and Route PAF34. Nothing about phases or load entitlement.

Typical. Mine's exactly the same but the load entitlement line is missing. I've gone through all the bills I've got and it's not on any of them. Any ideas why this would be missing. I'm getting paranoid now

I emailed a friend to check the house and he reckons its single phase so hopefully they will work. Thanks for the info
