New system at General Hospital Pharmacy

Postby tonee » 12 Jan 2012 21:21

The Pharmacy at the General Hospital in Paphos has now adopted the(Tesco Meat counter)ticket option. As you walk through the door at the Pharmacy the ticket machine is on your left, take a ticket, take a seat and wait for your number to come up on the screen.
A lot better system, wish they would adopt it in the GPs section.

Well if they stick to it it should be OK. It sort of works for the blood tests. But neither the Pharmacy or the blood test area, have enough seats for all.

They did use the system before - and at Registration as well. The only problem at the pharmacy was people calling in to pick up a ticket before they went to see a doctor/consultant. At registration it was simply people jumping the queue all the time as still happens !! It works at the Laboratory with blood test because the staff make sure it does.

Yes a better system to stop queue jumping, but honestly do you think it will work?

But how do you know when it's your number? Do they have an indicator or just someone calling it out, presumably in Greek?

One of the better systems in Thailand was that most queuing systems had an indicator board which displayed the next number so no trying to listen amongst the babble for your number being called

Peter yes they have indicators panels mounted near the ceiling, problem I see is you will still get gate crashers and they will still get served without a ticket, we will all see I guess.

The ticket system was tried before and there is no reason why it should not work correctly now.

All that is required is to follow the Limassol General hospital procedure for both the Reception & Pharmacy..

That procedure works like this, you take your numbered ticket. You sit down till your number comes up on your it’s your turn electric number board.

When you arrive to be processed at both the receptionist & the pharmacists they want to see your number, to check you are not trying to cheat the system, if you are trying to cheat you are told Bu!!!r off ( Much more politely of course) it is not your turn.

Far more civilised than what has been happening at Paphos General for the many years now.
The system can be abused by the patients but it is still far and away better than what happens now.

I hope all the taxi drivers and widows in black go along with your thoughts, I sincerely hope it will work because it didn't before.

Just been at the General this morning and the system in the pharmacy An old Cypriot tried to jump the queue in front of us and the one who is normally miserrable behind the counter told her to go and wait her turn or that must have been what he said. He was also in a good mood, think he was enjoying telling them to sit down. We saw this happen on a few occasions so I give it a thumbs up. Hope it lasts.

Friends of mine who were at Limassol General as one needed a major operation recently and were left tearing their hair out and say it's even worse than Paphos General - tickets are not numbered but coloured, and everyone has a different opinion of what colour's required for what department!

All directional signs were in Greek aswell which doesn't help either.

They've never been so glad to be told the aftercare would be in Paphos!

You got it in one Jim, that's the guy. We both commented that we had never seen him so happy.

Vicky, someone once told me that Limassol was better, you have just ruined my illusion.

Pickles it appears your friend did not know how the very fair system works at Limassol General.

There are two ticket dispensers one is ticket is numbered & yellow this is to see a G,P. Then there is a numbered green ticket that is to see a specialist.

No matter what the colour is , they are all numbered. There are approx 5 windows to check in for a GP, and 3 for the Specialists. GP check in as its owned numbered your turn board, and the Specialists also have their own numbered check in board.

Frankly it was a pleasure to use their system. No hassle, no queuing, just sit yourself down and wait your turn.

Finding your way round the hospital the first time, all you need to do is ask staff for directions. I personally never came across anyone that did not want to help.

We find the whole of the hospital is far more user friendly than Paphos General. Unfortunately I have had quite a lot of experience with both hospitals in the last year or so, and administration of Limassol Hospital is a pleasure to use.

Whatever the system she's just relieved she'll not have to go there again, she was there with her husband who was having a cancerous kidney removed and was passed from pillar to post!

A month later they're still awaiting results to see if it's spread elsewhere.

Oh and don't forget the copy of your pink card or they refuse point blank to give you your drugs.

We lost ours but explained this to both casualty which unfortunately I had to attend twice last weekend and at the reception for the doctors on Monday. We were given a new form to take to another building to get a replacement card but needed some drugs in the meantime as I was in considerable pain. Having waiting 3 hours for my turn with the doctor the waiting for number 98 in the pharmacy which caused confusion as 98 was round twice (yes there were 2 98's) as the queue was so slow, I was refused tablets and shouted at in no uncertain terms. I burst into tears as my husband tried to sort it out. No way would they budge, we had to go to another building to get the replacement card then back up to the pharmacy before they shut. What a nightmare.

Hope I don't need to go back in a hurry.

Good luck

Today was my first experience of the 'ticket system' at the Paphos General Pharmacy. I thought that it worked very well indeed. There are more seats for the waiting public although they are mainly the wooden benches.

I was served by the Pharmacist which most seem to say is grumpy. I understand what you mean but I think if you have some good converation for him then he is fine. At least this has always been my experience with him.
The same guy helped me out on my last visit there. I had accumulated too many of one type of tablets and was short on another. I took back a box of the surplus ones and exchanged it for ones that I was short of. Very helpful to me

The new system gets a thumbs up from me.

One guy I did upset today was the booking in man for the Cardiology consultant. I gave him my appointment card and OUR medical card.... Our medical card has both names on it, but of course the appointment card is in my name only.
I went away from the window an found that he had given me labels in the name of Hilary Norris. Obviously I went back, and to the front of the queue. He was not happy and ended up throwing the new labels, medical card and appointment card at me.
No problem... my second name must be Mr Chill.... but not always.

Jim and Others

Re Mr Grumpy
Like Trev I have not thus far experienced any problem with this gentleman. I visited the hospital just before Christmas and on collecting my medication I arrived at his window. He dealt with my prescription and I wished him and his family "A Merry Crhistmas and Happy New Year" and was rewarded with a huge smile and good wishes for my Christmas and New Year. I usually get reasonable civility from him but I dont know what I can wish him on my next visit if he serves me as it is in February and too early for Easter - big smile and look helpless I guess- often works for me.
