Exchanging Cyta Router

Postby RaynSue » 14 Dec 2015 09:34

I know there is a section for techie stuff but I need a quick answer and the General section gets more immediate views .......

We still have an old black speedtouch router from Cyta and I remember people saying on here that they were able to exchange them for a newer model.

Can anyone who has done this please advise how they did it?
Do you just take the old one into the Cyta shop and ask them to swap it?
Do you have to queue up and see someone on one of the customer service desks or go direct to the shop section that is on the right as you go in?
Do I need to take a bill to prove I am a customer? (and if so, as it's in hubby's name am I going to have problems if I go on my own?

thanks in advance

Morning Sue, I did this recently, my old Thomson was overheating, took it into Cyta they gave me another with no arguments, it was not though a new model but it works, you will need to set up the new router so you may need to phone help line, as I did, do remember to take your old one back with the power lead at the time you go and those bills too!

Sue

Can anyone who has done this please advise how they did it? (I just did....Jim)

Done it a few months ago. Very straight forward and nothing to pay.

Do you just take the old one into the Cyta shop and ask them to swap it?

Yes, if they are in stock. They weren't when we called. They placed an order. They rang us a week later and we collected. Always go to the main CYTA shop as not all CYTA shops keep stocks. Remember to take the cable with you.

Do you have to queue up and see someone on one of the customer service desks or go direct to the shop section that is on the right as you go in?

You queue and then go to any one of the customer desks.

Do I need to take a bill to prove I am a customer? (and if so, as it's in hubby's name am I going to have problems if I go on my own?

Yes, we took our last bill as it tells them what service and speed you use. Names are not a problem. After we connected the new modem we experienced problems with our TV service. We phoned the CYTA help line and they checked out the line and modem and found that some new software needed to be downloaded to the new modem. They did this. It only took a couple of minutes and everything has been fine since.

How would users rate the Thompson routers that Cytanet provide as standard? Is it possible to replace them with a shop bought router providing a better signal?

I was told by SOS that Cyta router has to be used, but no doubt someone will say it is possible, I find the Thompson OK personally, apart from mine that did cook itself.

The CyTA Thompson router has very poor security and a hackers delight and no you don't have to use it. I have a netgear router locked down the settings for your own router are provided on the CyTA Web Site

Really after 15 years of use I never knew that, never having any security problems with the Thompson, you live and learn..so SOS are not correct then.

We have been with CYTA for a little over a year and we have a ZTE ZXDSL 931, it works well and has a good wireless signal. also I ran a lan cable from it upstairs to another dlink router which I configured as a "switch" with wifi enabled so where ever we go we have good signal. I used the tv conduits in the wall as we no longer have a tv aerial.
My worst nightmare. To own a car which is "FULLY LOADED"

I spoke to Cyta today and they say that you can only use the modem that they provide, although you can connect another router through the Cyta modem, so I guess that is what filbert fox is doing not really using a different Modem.
