Can't connect to printer

Postby Firefly » 24 May 2016 14:00

My printer was working fine until I put new cartridges in. Now it won't print, doesn't even connect to my computer, all it does it keep printing the test sheet, and in spite of copying it as directed, it still won't work. Please can anyone help me out here.

Thanks, Jackie

Where, what part of the world did you buy your printer. I learnt yesterday ay Cartridge World that cartridges bought in the West will not work with relevant printers bought in the Middle East. If this is the case I don't think all is lost but you should ask at CW to see if they can do something to 're-initialize' (my word) the cartridge.

Hi

I bought the printer and cartridges in the UK, both worked fine until yesterday when I changed the cartridges, I'm at a loss. My computer won't recognise the printer, very odd.

Go in to control panel, look for the printer, remove it, turn the printer off, back on, then reinstall it.
When one door closes, another one slams in your face.......

Put the old print cartridges back in the printer and try connecting again

Exactly the same thing happened to me about a year ago.

Only way I solved it was by uninstalling the printer files then reloading the original CD.
If you dont have the original CD you could try the manufactures web site for the drivers of your model.

RW, having just moved house, I haven't a clue where I put the disc.

Lion, unfortunately the old cartridges have been recycled.

Panoscouse, I'll try, but I rather hopeless with anything other than the basics

Thanks for the replies guys.

No worries - manufacturers discs only put unwanted stuff on your PC IMHO :)

Control panel
Deviced & Printers
Find your printer
right click on it and select 'remove device'
OK your way out of there
Restart your PC
Plug in your printer (USB to PC)
It *SHOULD* then say something along the lines of 'windows is installing your printer, please wait, etc'

Then .... it might work .... then again .....

Good luck

I guess it does not pay to use re filled or cloned ink cartridges, I always use originals bought from Amazon or Computer SOS, never had any problems as yet, my Canon printer is an old one (4 years), no help maybe but the next time buy originals. Hope you sort it.

Drivers, download drivers for your printer..

Yes sorry for the delay in replying, due to me having an accident and ending up in A & E. I intend to hopefully re-connect to the printer today or tomorrow.

Jackie.

Maybe your printer was trying to warn you of something (spooky), hope you are on the mend! :-B

Interestingly I had a refilled none original cartridge for my Canon printer, put it into my printer, guess what it refused to print, changed to one from SOS a Canon original, worked as it should first time, lesson for me I think, buy original replacements.

Jim, you could well be right, I bought Tesco cartridges compatible with my printer, maybe that was the fault.

Still on crutches, but I'm used to those as you know ! Thanks for asking.

The problem often happens when printers receive an update via the internet. Usually a software update is OK.
A firmware update is the one to avoid if you wish to use compatibles, especially if not the latest versions. This effectively locks out their use (unless you buy the very latest versions from the likes of Cartridge World, etc. - which may be OK). In a nutshell, if unsure, do NOT update anything to do with the printer!
